교육적 동기에 의한 ‘탈한국’의 개연성이 있는 가족의 특성

국문 초록

본 연구는 한국사회에서 자녀교육을 위해 ‘탈한국’을 고려했던 가족의 특성을 분석하였다. 분 석결과는 어떤 가족이 자녀를 조기유학 보내거나 교육이민을 떠나는 것을 고려했을 가능성에 가 장 큰 영향을 미치는 요인은 부모의 자녀에 대한 기대교육수준, 아버지의 학력, 가계소득임을 보 여주었다. 또한 자신의 공부나 성적에 대한 고민이 크고, 미래에 대한 포부가 원대하며, 문화자본 의 혜택을 많이 누리는 자녀를 둔 가족일수록 교육 때문에 한국을 떠날 개연성이 높은 것으로 판명되었다. 마지막으로, 자녀가 다니고 있는 학교에 대해 부모가 불만을 느끼고 있거나, 어머니 가 외국어 구사능력을 갖추고 있으면 조기유학 또는 교육이민 결행이 더욱 촉진될 가능성이 있 는 것으로 나타났다.

영문 초록

This study attempts to explore the traits of the families having the likelihood of migration for children's education. It found that the parents' level of educational expectations for their children, the father's educational attainment level, and household income are the most influential factors in making families show different tendency toward sending children abroad at the early age or emigrating with them for the sake of their education. Also, the children, who are more concerned about their academic achievement; have a greater aspiration for their future; and enjoy an ampler array of cultural capital, appear to have the higher probability of being sent abroad for study. Finally, when parents are discontent with the schools their children are attending and/or when mother has little communication problems in foreign countries, it is more likely that families decide to migrate overseas for children's education.
