가부장적 성윤리의 재생산

국문 초록

양성평등이 진행되고 성문화가 개방되어 가지만, 청소년의 성행태에 가부장적 이중성이 스며드 는 만큼 남녀 청소년의 정체성은 서로 다르게 왜곡되고 따라서 사회의 전반적 가부장적 이중성은 재생산된다. 이 연구는 경인 지역의 중류계층이 주로 재학하는 고등학교의 평범한 학생들의 성에 관한 에세이를 질적 분석하여 그들이 성에 부여하는 의미를 추적함으로써, 가부장적 이중성이라 는 성윤리가 어떻게 재생산되고 또는 저항되는지 밝히고자 했다. 연구 결과의 주요 주제는 ‘친밀 한 존재’, ‘슬픔을 주는 존재’, ‘육체적 대상’, ‘업적의 대상’, ‘경쟁자’, ‘지원자’였다. 즉 여학생들 은 이성친구와의 친밀한 관계를 중시하지만 남학생들은 이성친구를 육체적 대상과 업적의 대상으 로 주로 인식하므로, 이 괴리에서 오는 여학생들의 슬픔과 정체성 훼손이 관찰되었다. 또한 이성 관계에 있어서의 동성친구를 여학생들은 경쟁자로 인식하는 경향이 있는 반면 남학생들은 여자친 구라는 업적을 획득하는 과정에서 기능적 도구 역할을 하는 지원자로 규정하는 경향이 강했다. 이 연구는 이성문제에 있어 심각한 고민을 토로하는 집단이나 비행 청소년 집단을 대상으로 한 기존의 연구와 달리 보다 평균적인 청소년을 대상으로 하여 가부장적 이중적 성윤리가 재생산되 는 양태를 확인하였다는 데에 의의가 있으며, 이러한 이중성을 허물기 위한 보다 전향적인 성담 론의 확산과 구체적 성교육 프로그램의 개발을 제안하면서 전향적 성담론의 중요한 계기가 될 이 중적 성윤리에 대한 저항을 포착해낼 후속 연구를 촉구하고 있다.

영문 초록

Even though gender equality proceeds and the culture of sexuality liberalizes, identities of boys and girls are differently distorted as much as the patriarchal duality permeates into the sexuality of adolescents, therefore the overall patriarchy of a society is reproduced. This study, through a qualitative analysis of essays of middle class high school students in Seoul-Incheon area, pursues the meanings of sexuality male and female adolescents interprete, and discloses if the sexual ethics of patriarchal duality is reproduced or resisted. Significant themes identified are as follows: intimate being, grief-causing being, object of physicality, object of achievement, competitor, and supporter. That is, girls value the intimate relationships with boyfriends while boys perceive girlfriends as the objects of physicality and achievement, and this discrepancy causes griefs and identity distortion on the part of female adolescents. Moreover whereas girls tend to regard other girls as competitors in gendered relationships, boys saliently define other boys as supporters who take the facilitating functional role in the route to obtaining girls as achievements. Unlike previous studies which dealt with extreme groups such as girls with serious anguishes for their boyfriends or delinquent boys with male chauvinism, this study has significance in terms that it proves the reproductive aspects of patriarchal dual ethics in sexuality as dealing with average and normal adolescent group. It asks for dissemination of more progressive sexual discourse and concrete sex education programs to shake such duality, and asserts the necessity of following studies which could capture some resistant possibilities against the reproduction.
