조선 후기 武官 張漢相의 생애와 활동

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 울릉도를 직접 수토한 삼척첨사 장한상의 가계를 비롯하여 생애와 활동을 총체적으로 고찰하였다. 장한상의 선대는 조선 건국 후 고려에 대한 충절을 지키기 위해 의성으로 들어와 은거하였다. 그 후 자손들은 충효를 중시하는 가풍에 영향을 받으며 타고난 완력을 바탕으로 무관직에 진출하여 활약하였다. 장한상은 20대 초반 무과에 급제하여 병으로 사망할 때까지 약 40년간 주요 관직에 종사하였다. 그리고 희천군수로서 사신 접대, 통신사 군관으로서 일본에서의 활동, 무신으로서 경연 참여, 삼척첨사로서 울릉도 수토, 경상좌병사로서 봉수대 이설, 어영별장으로서 북한산성 수축 감독, 전라병사로서 백성 진휼, 경기수사 및 옥천군수로서 백성을 구휼하는 등의 업적을 남겼다. 따라서 장한상의 생애와 업적을 전체적으로 조망하며 그의 울릉도 수토 활동에 대한 의미를 찾아야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

This study generally considered lineage, life, and activites of Jang, Hansang, Special Army Officer of Samcheo who directly defended territory of Ulleungdo Island. Jang, Hansang’s ancestors returned to Euiseong and went into retirement to keep fidelity to Goryeo after the establishment of the Joseon Dynasty. After that, the descendants entered military posts based on natural physical strength being influenced by values that considers filial piety as important. Jang, Hansang passed a military examination and engaged himself in major official ranks for about 40 years. And he left achievements of envoy entertainment as a Heuicheon district head, activities in Japan as military officer of an official Korean ambassador, participation in royal lectures as a military official, defense of Ulleungdo Island as a Samcheo special army officer, movement of beacons as a provincial military commander in Gyeongsang, supervision of building Bukhansanseong Fortress as a general of Royal Division, relief of subjects as a provincial military commander in Jeolla, and relief of subjects as a provincial naval commander in Gyeonggi and Okcheon district head. Therefore, it overally views Jang, Hansang’s life and acheivements and should find meaning in his activities to defend Ulleungdo Island.
