국문 초록

이 작업의 주목적은 중국 자전 및 관련 연구에 대해 문화연구 기반의 새로운 접근을 제시하는 데 있으며, 이는 기존 방법의 한계를 극복함으로써 달성된다. 여기서 ‘한계’는 특정 중국 자전에 대한 미시적 천착 또는 계량적 연구를 토대로 공고히 서 있으면서 중국 자전 연구의 확장과 심화로 나야 할 길을 가로막고 있는 벽을, ‘극복’은 그 자전의 사회적 생산을 가능케 한 당대의 정치경제적·사회문화적 조건 전반에 대한 거시적이면서도 종합적인 탐색을 통해 그것의 연속성과 불연속성, 그리고 보편성과 특수성 모두를 규명하는 새로운 방법을 함의한다. 여기서 연속성과 불연속성의 관계는 ‘역사의 중층적 이행’이라는 틀에서, 특정 중국 자전의 보편성과 특수성은 ‘담론 구성체’와 ‘당대의 지식 생산 체제’라는 틀에서 고찰·분석·설명된다. 끝으로 이 같은 연속성과 불연속성, 보편성과 특수성의 ‘다중변증법적 관계 설정’은 중국 문명과 사회를 바라보는 창(窓)으로서 중국 자전 및 관련 연구에 대해 새로운 관점을 제시할 것으로 기대된다.

영문 초록

The main purpose of this work is to present a new approach based on cultural studies to Chinese dictionaries and related studies, which is accomplished by means of overcoming the limitation of existing methods. Here, the limitation refers in fact to the wall that stands firmly on the base of micro-inquiry or quantitative research on a specific dictionary, blocking the expansion and deepening of Chinese dictionary research. The overcoming implies a new method of identifying both universality and specificity of the dictionary through a macroscopic yet comprehensive exploration carried out for the overall political-economic and socio-cultural conditions of the time in which the social production of the dictionary was actually made possible. In this respect, the relationship between continuity and discontinuity is examined, analyzed, and explained in the framework of multi-layered transition of history, and so do the universality and specificity of a given Chinese dictionary in those of formation discursive and contemporary system of knowledge production. Lastly, it is expected that the multi-dialecticization of continuity-discontinuity and universality-specificity will present a new perspective on Chinese dictionaries and related research as a window to look into Chinese civilization and society.
