영문 초록

Adversative relation is an universal semantic category in human cognitive system.This study chooses Chinese and English which belong to two topological languages to contrast their adversative discourse markers in location, semantic relations and pragmatic functions.In these aspects, Chinese-English adversative discourse markers have more similarities than differences, however, they do not have one-to-one correspondence relation. Some adversative discourse markers are influenced by the language contact.Chinese-English adversative discourse markers share lots of common ground but also have their own characteristics.
