국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 다문화 가정 아동들의 읽기 태도 발달 양상을 경험적으로 규명하는 데 있다. 이를 위해, 경기도 안산에 있는 A초등학교 다문화 가정 학생들 114명이 참여하였다. 그리고 다문화 가정 아동들의 읽기 태도는 메케나와 키어가 개발한 ‘초등학생 읽기 태도 검사 도구’를 우리말로 번안한 도구를 사용하였다. 연구 결과에 따르면, 다문화 가정 아동들의 읽기 태도 점수는 일반 아동들의 읽기 태도 점수보다 낮았을 뿐만 아니라 학년이 올라갈수록 조금씩 낮아지는 양상을 나타냈다. 또한 모든 학년에서 여자 아동들의 읽기 태도 점수가 남자 아동들의 읽기 태도 점수를 상회하였다. 이에 대한 설명으로는 읽기 활동으로부터 오는 인지적·정서적 만족의 부재, 직접적인 참여보다는 설명 중심의 읽기 수업에 대한 흥미 감소 등을 들 수 있다. 다문화 가정 학생들이 행복하게 살 수 없는 세상에는 일반 가정의 학생들도 행복하게 살 수 없다. 국어교육 연구자가 다문화 가정 아동들의 읽기교육에 관심을 가져야 하는 이유가 바로 여기에 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to empirically investigate the developmental trends of multicultural elementary students’ attitude toward reading. For it, 114 first-to-sixth elementary schoolers in Ansan City were participated in the study and Korean Elementary Reading Attitude Survey(KERAS) was used for the data collection. It was a Korean version of McKenna and Kear's Elementary Reading Attitude Survey(ERAS). Results from the study documented a negative trend in multicultural elementary students’ attitude toward reading as they pass through the elementary grade. Regarding gender effect, results indicated that girls as a group possess more positive attitude than boys at all grade levels. These results might be attributed to a rapid decrease in reading time and in cognitive and affective satisfaction from reading and a change in readers' reading purpose and in expectation of significant persons to them. Implications from this study may seem clear. Early intervention in an effort to preempt reading difficulties and to provide better reading instruction, reading environment, and time to read may curb the attitude decline.
