국문 초록

목적 : 본고는 鎭川郡 7개 읍면에 속하는 행정리와 자연리 이름을 대상으로, 고유지명과 한역지명을 대조하여, 한역지명에 고유지명의 원뜻이 얼마나 정확히 반영되고 있는지에 대한 논의이다. 방법 : 행정리나 자연리의 고유지명과 한역지명 사이에는, 한역이 정확하든 부정확하든, 대부분 대응관계가 성립된다. 본고는 고유지명과 한역지명을 대조할 때, 우선적으로 『朝鮮地志資料』의 기록을 이용하고, 이 책에 자료가 없는 경우에는 『輿地圖書』의 기록이나 현재의 한역지명을 이용하기도 한다. 고유지명을 이용하여 한역지명을 삼을 때는 차자표기가 이용된다. 결과 : 차자표기에는 音讀表記, 音借表記, 訓讀表記, 訓借表記 등 다양한 방법이 있다. 고유지명을 이용하여 한역지명을 삼을 때는 음독표기나 훈독표기가 그 원뜻을 담고 있어 정확한 표기임은 주지의 사실이다. 결론: 연구 결과, 한역지명이 고유지명의 원뜻을 부정확하게 반영하는 예들을 너무도 많이 발견할 수 있었다. 본고는 이런 지명을 예로 들어, 그 대역 방법을 살펴보았다.

영문 초록

Purpose: This paper chooses small communities of seven towns in Jincheon- gun, which have their administrative Chinese-translated names and also Korean-native ones, and compares them in order to know how exactly a Chinese-translated name reflects the original meaning of its Korean-native name. Methods: It has been proved that there is a corresponding relationship between them for the most part, even if some Korean-native names were not translated into Chinese-translated ones correctly. The recorded information of Cosencicicalyo(朝鮮地志資料) is primarily used when comparing the relationship of two different names. And in case that some useful information could not be found there, Yeojidoseo(輿地圖書) or their current Chinese-translated names were used as an alternative way. Korean-native names are usually replaced into Chinese-translated ones by a borrowed-writing system(借字表記). Results: And this system can be used in various ways such as semantic on reading(音讀表記), phonetic on reading(音借表記), semantic kun reading(訓讀表記), or phonetic kun reading(訓借表記). It is certain that when a Korean-native name is replaced into a Chinese-translated one, semantic on reading or semantic kun reading is proper because this way reflects their own meaning.
