국문 초록

비행 피해경험은 청소년들의 주요한 스트레스 요인 중 하나로 간주된다. 또한 비행 피해경험은 비행의 원인이 되기도 한다. Agnew의 일반긴장이론은 비행 피해는 부정적인 감정상태를 가져오며 이에 대한 대처방안의 하나로 비행을 저지르게 된다고 제시한다. 이 연구는 비행 피해와 부정적인 감정이 비행에 미치는 영향에 관한 성차를 고찰하는 것이다. Agnew의 일반긴장이론에 근거하여 이 연구는 다음과 같은 가정을 하였다. 남자청소년이 여자청소년보다 비행 피해가 높게 나타날 것이다. 비행 피해가 부정적인 감정에 미치는 영향은 남자청소년의 경우는 공격성에 미치는 영향이 강할 것이며, 여자청소년의 경우는 우울에 미치는 영향이 강할 것이다. 공격성이나 우울이 비행에 미치는 영향은 여자청소년보다 남자청소년에게 더 크게 나타날 것이다. 한국아동 · 청소년패널조사 자료를 이용하여 이와 같은 가설을 검증하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 남자청소년이 여자청소년에 비해 비행 피해정도가 크게 나타났다. 남자청소년의 경우 비행 피해는 우울에 정적인 영향을 주는 반면, 여자청소년의 경우 비행 피해는 공격성과 우울에 정적인 영향을 미친다. 공격성이 비행에 미치는 영향은 여자청소년에게 더 크게 나타났다. 여자청소년의 경우 우울은 비행에 부적인 영향을 미친다. 이 연구는 일반 긴장이론에 근거하여 비행 피해와 부정적인 감정이 비행에 미치는 과정은 남자청소년보다 여자청소년에게 잘 적용될 수 있음을 제시한다. 여자청소년이 남자청소년보다 비행 피해로 나타나는 심리적 고통에 취약하기에 이를 위한 상담치료프로그램이나 정책이 필요하다.

영문 초록

Victimization experiences are widely recognized as an important source of strain in adolescents. Victimization experiences may also cause delinquency. Agnew’s general strain theory suggests that victimization as strain generates negative emotions providing motivation for delinquency as copying strategy. This study investigates gender differences in the effects of victimization and negative emotions on delinquency. Based on Agnew s general strain theory, this study hypothesizes that males experience higher levels of victimization than females; the effect of victimization on aggression for males is stronger than females, whereas the effect of victimization on depression for females is stronger than males; the effects of aggression and depression on delinquency for males are stronger than females. Three-wave data from the Korean Children & Youth Panel Survey are used to test hypotheses. The results show that males are more likely to be victimized; victimization positively affects depression for males, whereas victimization positively affects aggression and depression for females; the effect of aggression on delinquency for females is stronger than males; depression negatively affects delinquency for females. This study suggests that the process of victimization and negative emotions affecting delinquency based on general strain theory is more applicable for females. The counselling therapy programs and policies for females are required because females are more vulnerable to the psychological distress of victimization.
