공무도하전승의 공연문학적 접근과 해석

국문 초록

공무도하전승은 우리 문학의 초기를 장식하는 작품이면서 비극적인 정서를 함축하여 일찍부터 관심의 대상이었다. 이 논문에서는 이 전승의 문예적 속성을 공연문학적인 측면에서 접근한 것이다. 먼저 공연문학적 접근 여건을 탐색하였다. 이 전승의 형성에서 확인되는 공연문학적인 특징이다. 이 전승은 고대에 특정 집단의 대표자가 적대세력에게 맹렬하게 맞서다 익사하자 그를 기리는 제의극이 형성되고, 이 제의극을 백수광부와 그 부인이 재연한 내용을 담은 것으로 보인다. 이어서 전개과정에서 보이는 공연문학적 접근 여건이다. 현전의 기록 자체가 공연 유통의 면모를 보이거니와 중국에서는 이 전승이 궁중의 연악으로 쓰이기도 했다. 또한 문인들의 악부시를 통해서도 공연문학적인 자질을 짐작할 수 있고, 이 전승과 관련된 춤이 공연문학적인 특성을 보조하기도 한다. 이러한 제반 특성 때문에 이 전승을 공연문학적인 측면에서 접근할 필요가 있어 보인다. 다음으로 문학적 실태를 통해 공연문학적인 해석을 모색하였다. 이 전승은 기록 자체만으로는 논리적인 해석이 불가능하다. 이는 실제 사건을 기록하기보다는 공연 현장과 공연 유통을 기술한 때문이라 하겠다. 이 전승의 배경이나 인물, 그리고 전체 구도가 그러한 사정을 대변하고 있다. 배경에서는 현장적인 공연 공간이 있고, 현장을 목격하고 재차 공연한 배경이 나타난다. 인물에서는 어느 누구든 일상적인 인물로 해석하기 어렵다. 그래서 등장인물 모두 비극적인 정서를 공연한 인물로 보는 것이 타당하다. 전체구도에서도 장시간에 걸쳐, 그리고 광범위하게 전승되는 과정을 단계적인 구도에 따라 기술한 것으로 해석된다. 끝으로 공연문학적인 관점에서 그 가치를 검토하였다. 이 전승은 그 형성 과정이나 문학적인 실태, 그리고 유통 과정에서 지속적으로 공연과 관련되어 왔다. 따라서 이 전승의 본질적인 속성을 해명하기 위해서는 공연문학적인 관점에서 접근해야 마땅하다. 산문전승을 관극서사로, 운문전승을 관극시가로 접근할 때 우리 문학사에서 아주 이른 시기부터 연극 및 희곡적인 위상을 정립할 수 있기 때문이다. 그렇게 할 때 이 전승이 한국과 중국에서 공연물로 지속될 수 있었던 근원적인 문제도 해명할 수 있으리라 본다.

영문 초록

The folklore of Gongmudoha has been the subject of attention as it embodies the tragic sentiments of the early days of our literature. In this paper, we have approached the literary properties of this tradition from a performing literary perspective. To sum up what we have discussed so far: We first explored the conditions of the performance approach. First, it is a performance-based characteristic that is identified in the formation. This tradition was formed as a memorial play in honor of ancient representative of a certain group who fought fiercely against hostile forces and drowned in the river, and 백수광부 and his wife reenacted it. Next is the conditions of the performance approach seen during the development process. While the 현전 record itself shows the aspect of performance distribution, in China, this folklore was also used as a feast music for the court. In addition, the literary qualities can be estimated through poetry, and the dance related to this folklore reveals the performance characteristics. Next, a performance interpretation was sought through literature. The record itself cannot be interpreted logically. Rather than recording actual events, it seems to describe the performance site and the distribution of performances. The background, character, and overall composition of this folklore speaks for such circumstances. As for the background, there is a background of the performance on the spot, and the background of the performance that was witnessed and re-performed. It is difficult to interpret any character as a casual one. All of the characters should be regarded as performing tragic emotions. From overall composition, it is a discription of long-term and extensive transmission in step-by-step composition. Finally, the value was reviewed from a performance literature perspective. This folklore was continuously related to performances in the process of formation, literary status, and distribution. Therefore, it is necessary to approach from a performance literary point of view in order to explain the essential nature of this folklore. When a prose transmission is approached as a theatrical narration, and poetry transmission is approached as theatrical song, the theater and play status can be established from very early in Korean literary history. In doing so, the fundamental problem that this folklore could have continued as a performance in Korea and China can also be explained.
