국문 초록

이 논문은 모윤숙의 시 작품에 나타나는 여성화자와 남성화자의 문체적 특징을 페미니즘 관점으로 분석한 연구이다. 모윤숙의 시 작품을 페미니즘 관점으로 분석하는 배경에는 당대 남근중심주의 언어체계를 능가하는 조국과 민족에 대한 담론이 여성의식의 한 흐름으로 다루어지기 때문이다. 이를 살피기 위해 유교적 가부장제와 식민사회에서 평가된 기존 문학의 비평을 재조명해야할 필요성과 여성 체험의 다양성을 내포한 ‘여성적 글쓰기(시)’ 양식을 살펴봄으로써, 당대 여성시인의 무의식과 의식을 고찰하고자 하였다. 근대는 과거와 구별되는 사회로 현대를 지향한 과도기적 질서를 갖는다. 여러 가지 모순과 혼돈 속에서도 질서를 찾아가는 시기였다고 볼 수 있다. 특히 모윤숙은 35년여의 식민사회와 전통적인 가부장제의 이중적 지배구조 속에서 동시대의 순종적인 여성들과 달리 여성의 사회적 역할에 남다른 관심을 가졌다. 여성시인으로서 남성들의 전유라고 할 수 있는 조국과 민족에 대한 담론을 침묵으로 일관하지 않고 여성담론으로 대응함으로써, 여성해방의식과 여성의 주체성을 확립하는 등 공동체의 공리적 가치를 촉진하고 강화한 측면이 있다고 보았다. 모윤숙의 이러한 민족의식의 담론 양상은 단순히 시대적인 맥락에서 남성작가들의 민족의식을 모방한 데에서 기인했을 가능성도 배제할 수 없지만, 중요한 것은 그녀의 성장 과정에서 나타나는 사회적 체험과 경험에 의해 주체적인 여성해방의식과 여성의 사회참여의식의 연장선상에서 여성의 담론으로 확장되고 강화한 측면이라고 보여 진다. 이에 ‘남성화자’로 대변되는 일련의 시적 언술은 여성작가의 민족에 대한 주체적인 면모가 전복적인 ‘여성적 글쓰기’로 표출된 것이라고 말할 수 있겠다. 모윤숙은 당대 사회 현실에서 기존의 전통적인 여성적 어조로는 저항할 수 없음을 인식하고, 가부장적 성 차이를 해소하려는 차원에서 남근 중심주의 언어 체계로 ‘여성적 글쓰기’를 시도했다고 볼 수 있다. 특히 한국전쟁시기에 남성화자를 시에 적용함으로써, 탈식민주의적 민족의식과 가부장제를 넘어설 수 있는 일종의 전복적인 ‘여성적 글쓰기’를 시도했던 것으로 한국 페미니즘 의식의 긍정적인 발단으로 보인다. 그러나 자의든, 타의든 일제 말기 황민화 정책에 의해 친일에 부응했던 시인으로 일정한 시기에 민족의식이 상충되어 드러난 점은 여전히 한계로 남는다.

영문 초록

This paper puts an in-depth study on the literary characteristics of female and male speakers in Mo Yoon-sook’s poetry work in a feminist perspective. Mo Yoon-sook s poetry works are analyzed from a feminist point of view because discourse on a country and people, which surpass the contemporary Phallic dominated language, is dealt with a flow of female consciousness. In this context, this paper tried to investigate the unconsciousness and consciousness of female poets of the time by examining the conventional literature criticism evaluated by Confucian patriarchy and colonial society and looking into the styles of female writing which connote the diversity of female experiences. Modernity is a society that distinguishes itself from the past and has a transitional order oriented toward modern times. It was a time to seek order amid various contradictions and chaos. In particular, Mo Yoon-sook had an extraordinary interest in the social role of women, unlike other obedient women of that time, in the dual governance structure of 35 years of colonial society and traditional patriarchy. As a female poet, she had responded with discourses for the nation and its people, not staying in silence but with her feminine discourse. It reveals that she had promoted and strengthened the utilitarian values of the community, including establishing female liberation consciousness and independent female identity. The aspects of her discourse on national consciousness cannot exclude a possibility that she might have imitated that of male writers simply in the context of the times, but the significant aspect is that it is extended and strengthened by the social experience during her growth. Thus, a series of poetic words which male speakers represented expressed subjective features of a female writer’s writing toward her nation through feminine writing. Mo Yoon-sook had recognized that she could not resist the social reality of her time in a traditional feminine tone and tried to write in a feminine stylistic way with a male-dominated linguistic system to resolve patriarchal gender differences. In particular, she had applied male speakers to poetry during the Korean War to try a kind of subversive feminine writing that could transcend postcolonial national consciousness and patriarchy. However, whether voluntarily or intentionally, as a pro-Japanese poet who responded to imperial citizen forming policy at the end of the Japanese colonial period, the conflict over national consciousness at a certain period remains an issue.
