박석자의이야기꾼유형과이야기꾼으로서의특성

국문 초록

이 글은 2011~2021년 동안 이야기 연행자 연구 관점으로 박석자(1934~ ) 화자를 조사한 결과이다. 본고는 박석자 화자의 이야기꾼 유형과 이야기꾼으로서의 특성을 파악해 보았다. 박석자 화자는 필자의 친할머니로서 오로지 유년 시절의 필자에게만 이야기 구연을 했던 인물이다. 박석자 화자는 할머니의 위치에서 친손자에게 이야기 구연을 할 때에 이야기꾼으로서의 역량이 가장 크게 발휘된다. 따라서 박석자 화자에게 가장 걸맞은 이야기꾼 유형의 명칭은 ‘조모(祖母)형 이야기꾼’이라고 명명할 수 있다. 박석자 화자는 이야기를 구연할 때 풍부한 소재, 좋은 기억력, 특별한 환경적 영향이나 생애상의 체험, 높은 구연 표현 감각과 소재 전환 능력, 적극적 기질과 친화력, 세련화된 독자적 구연 소재 등 6가지의 능숙한 이야기꾼으로서의 특성을 가지고 있다. 첫째, 박석자 화자는 총 278개의 설화를 구연했으며, 전통설화·민속신앙담·역사체험담·개인체험담·도시전설·외래 설화 등 다양한 소재의 이야기를 구연한다. 둘째, 박석자 화자는 10대 초반에 외할머니에게 들은 이야기를 88세인 현재까지도 또렷이 기억할 정도로 기억력이 매우 좋다. 셋째, 뛰어난 이야기꾼이었던 외할머니의 영향으로 박석자 화자 또한 뛰어난 이야기꾼이 되었다. 넷째, 박석자 화자는 ‘히이!’라는 감탄사로 구연하는 설화의 현장감을 표현하는 감각을 지니고 있다. 다섯째, 박석자 화자는 성인이 된 손자가 이야기 채록을 시작한 뒤부터 이야기꾼으로 각성하여 동네 경로당에서 적극적으로 이야기를 구연한다. 여섯째, 박석자 화자는 독자적 ‘개구리 고기’ 소재·화소로 옛날이야기를 실제 있었던 일로 만듦으로써 자신이 구연한 이야기의 사실성을 높인다. 이러한 특성들로 박석자 화자는 매우 능숙한 이야기꾼임을 알 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study is the result of investigating the teller Bak Seok-ja(1934~ ) from the perspective of story performer research from 2011 to 2021. This paper identified the storyteller type and characteristics of Bak Seok-ja teller. The teller, Bak Seok-ja, is the author’s grandmother, who only narrated the stories to the author of his childhood. Bak Seok-ja teller, shows the greatest ability as a storyteller when she narrates a story to her grandchild as a grandmother. So, the most appropriate type of storyteller for Bak Seok-ja teller can be named ‘Grandmother-type storyteller’. When narrating a story, Bak Seok-ja has six characteristics as a proficient storyteller: rich material, good memory, special environmental influences or life experiences, high sense of narrating expression and material conversion ability, active disposition and sociability, and refined independent narrating material. First, The teller, Bak Seok-ja narrated a total of 278 tales and narrated stories of various materials, such as Traditional tales·Folk belief stories·History experience stories·Personal experience stories·Urban legends·Foreign folk tale etc. Second, Bak Seok-ja teller has a very good memory, so that she still clearly remembers what she heard from her maternal grand mother in her early teens, even now at the age of 88. Third, under the influence of her maternal grand mother, who was and excellent storyteller, Bak Seok-ja teller also became and excellent storyteller. Fourth, the teller, Bak Seok-ja has a sense of expressing the sense of realism of the narrating tales with the exclamation ‘Hii!’. Fifth, Bak Seok-ja teller, awakens as a storyteller, actively narrates the story at a local senior citizen center after his adult grandson began recording the stories. Sixth, the teller, Bak Seok-ja enhances the realism of the story that she told by making the old story real with her own ‘frog meat’ material and motif. For these characteristics, it can be seen that Bak Seok-ja teller is a very proficient storyteller.
