국문 초록

구미는 조선 성리학 역사의 발원지이자 산실로서 그 중심에 금오서원이 있다. 따라서 구미와 금오서원은 한국 유학사, 특히 조선 성리학 역사에서 매우 중요한 곳이다. 또 금오서원 五賢, 冶隱 吉再･佔畢齋 金宗直･新堂 鄭鵬･松堂 朴英･旅軒 張顯光 이후 수많은 선현이 배출되어 선산(구미)학단을 형성할 수 있었다. 금오서원과 관련하여 창건의 함의와 함께 창건 당시 원위치 고찰은 중요한 의미를 갖는다. 본 연구 과정에서 창건 당시 원위치에 대한 주목할 만한 사실을 확인하였는데, 앞으로 당시 원위치를 특정할 수 있는 계기가 된다면 금오서원 창건이 지니는 함의와 구미 정신과 부합할 것이고, 혹 위치에 대한 논란의 여지를 해소할 수 있는 계기가 될 것이다. 금오서원 오현에 대해서는 그들의 삶과 관련 문헌, 詩文 및 후대의 평가 등을 살펴서 앞서 이른바 구미 정신이라고 할 만한 덕목을 특정해 보았다. 특히 금오 오현에 대한 후대의 평가에 있어서는 인물 褒貶에 대한 3자 관점에서의 객관성을 신빙하려고 하였다. 구미 정신이라는 용어는 성리학 관점에서 접근한 것이고, 14세기 중반(야은 길재) ~ 17세기 중반(여헌 장현광) 사이 약 300여 년 동안 면면히 이어져 온 시대 정신이라고 할 수 있다. 성리학의 입장에서 일관성을 견지하고 아울러 보편성을 갖고 있다. 따라서 과거의 그것을 이어 현재에 수용하고 미래에 전할 수 있다면 단지 금오 오현의 시대에만 인정한 전유물이 아니라 구미 정신으로 승화시킬 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

Gumi is the origin and cradle of Chosun’s neo-Confucian history, and Geumo Seowon is in the center of it. Therefore, Gumi and Geumo Seowon are crucial places in association with the history of Confucianism in Korea, particularly that of neo-Confucian history in Chosun. Also, following Geumo Seowon Ohyeon (五賢 ; five sages), Yaeun Giljae (冶隱 吉再)･Jeom Pil-jae (佔畢齋) Kim Jong-jik (金宗直)･Sindang Jeongbung (新堂 鄭鵬)･Songdang Pak Yeong (松堂 朴英)･Yeoheon Jang Hyeon-gwang (旅軒 張顯光), a number of ancient sages were cultivated and formed Seonsan (Gumi) School. Concerning Geumo Seowon, it is significant to consider its original location at the foundation as well as the implications of its foundation. In the process of this research, a noteworthy fact about its original location at the foundation was revealed, and if this helps specify its original location, it will conform to the implications of its foundation and also Gumi mind and will get rid of any possible controversies about the location afterwards. Regarding Geumo Seowon Ohyeon, this researcher examined literatures and poems about their lives and how following generations had evaluated them and then identified the virtues that could correspond to so-called Gumi mind mentioned earlier. Particularly about next generations’ evaluation on Geumo Ohyeon, this author tried to heighten objectivity from a three-person viewpoint onto the figures to be either praised or blamed. The term, Gumi mind, came out from the approach of neo-Confucian perspectives, and it is the spirit of the times handed down continuously for 300 or so years from the mid-14th century (Yaeun Giljae) to the mid-17th century (Yeoheon Jang Hyeon-gwang). At the neo-Confucian position, it has been consistent and is also equipped with universality. Therefore, if we accept that from the past at this time and deliver it to the future, it can be sublimated to Gumi mind that does not remain as an exclusive property admitted only in the times of Geumo Ohyeon.
