조선후기 선산일대 서원에 대한 기록과 지식 그리고 일상지식

국문 초록

이 논문은 조선시대 서원의 건립과 운영을 정파적, 학파적 관점에서 추적하던 선행연구와 차별을 기하기 위하여 서원에 대한 사실 기록이 지식으로 그리고 일상지식으로 정착 및 활용되는 과정을 추적했다. 이를 위해 현재의 구미시에 해당하는 조선시대 선산 지역과 인동 지역을 ‘선산일대’로 상정하고 이 일대에서의 서원 건립과 활동 사례를 분석했다. 17~19세기 선산과 인동 지역의 서원기록 사례를 지역 정보를 수록한 읍지와 전국단위 현황을 담고 있는 『연려실기술』, 『동국문헌』 등을 활용하여 추적했다. 선산 지역 서원기록은 17세기 『일선지』의 2개 원우 기록이 전국의 읍지를 종합한 『동국여지지』와 연동하고 있었으며, 18세기 5개의 원우에 대한 내용이 기록으로 남았다. 19세기에는 전국의 원우를 수록한 『동국문헌』과 『대동지지』에는 3개의 서원만 수록한 반면 『선산부읍지』에는 6개의 원우가 대상으로 지역과 외부의 지식에 차이가 있었다. 인동 지역은 17세기 『옥산지』에서 3개 원우에 대한 상세한 내력과 운영 기록을 남겼으며, 18세기 4개의 원우가 기록으로 남았다. 그리고 19세기에 지역 주도로 작성한 『인동부읍지』의 5개 원우를 정점으로 하면서도 전국단위를 대상으로 한 『동국문헌』과 『대동지지』에는 2~3개소에 대한 기록이 남았다. 선산과 인동의 서원기록은 장현광의 부상을 계기로 금오서원 등에서의 그의 역할 그리고 그를 향사하는 동락서원 이 전국의 원우를 수록한 기록에서 강조되는 특징을 보인다. 선산일대 서원에 대한 기록은 지역의 정보가 전국단위와 연동하여 유통되기도 하고 지역의 학파 간 경쟁이 수원(首院)에 대한 인식에 차이를 가져오기도 했다. 19세기에는 선산일대 지역에서 인식하는 원우 현황과 외부에 알려진 내용과 괴리가 생기기도 했다. 여기에는 서원에 대한 기록이 지식의 범주로 이어지고 이 지식이 유통되고 일상지식으로 작용하는 과정에서 기록의 주도권이 작용했기 때문이었다.

영문 초록

This paper evaluates the establishment and operation of the Seowon in the Joseon Dynasty from a political and interdisciplinary competition perspective, and examines the factual record of the Seowon was established with knowledge and common sense. The Case on Seonsan and Indong region’s Seowons of the Choson Dynasty, which correspond to the current Gumi area, were analyzed the construction and activities of Seowon in this area. An example of the records of Seowon in Seonsan and Indong in the 17th and 19th centuries was examined using the books containing local information. The records of Seonsan s book in the 17th century were linked to national wide information books containing 2 Seowon’s one. And this record combined the sharing knowledge and making common sense, and the contents of five Seowon including shrines for confucian remained as records in the 18th century. In the 19th century, six Seowon were identified in local publishing books, while only three were targeted in a booklet containing the current status of the country. In the Indong’s case, three academies in the 17th century increased to four in the 18th century. In the 19th century, five Seowon were included in the local area, while only two to three cases containing the current state of the country were eligible. Just after the Seowon was unchartered at the end of the 19th century, 10 of Seowon including shrine were found in the Seonsan and Indong region. These records have been distributed as necessary knowledge and daily knowledge for the elite in the late Choson Dynasty. After the process of examining the record of local information book, the text reveals the clues in the case where local cultural information were distributed and shared. Records of Seowon in the Seonsan and Indong reason were shared in conjunction with national units, and competition among local schools caused differences in perception of Seowon priority. Nevertheless, in the 19th century, there was a gap between the current status of Seowon in these areas and what was known outside, indicating that there was a difference in the scope of knowledge. The records of the Seowon were necessary knowledge for local and national Neo-Confucian scholars, and the scope of knowledge varied depending on where they lived and was optionally used as daily knowledge.
