국문 초록

본 연구의 목표는 쓰기 수업에서 응집성 개념을 명시적으로 교수하기 위해 응집성있는 글쓰기에 기여하는 요소들을 기반으로 구체적인 교수 항목을 제안하는 것이다. 응집성을 형성하는 요인들은 텍스트 내부와 외부에서 비롯되어 매우 다양하고,그 요인들에 의해 응집성이 성립되는 과정도 복잡하다.이로 인해 글쓰기 수업에서 응집성은 그 중요성에도 불구하고 추상적이고 모호한 용어로 설명되었다.그래서 본 연구는응집성 개념을 최대한 구체적인 용어로 구현함으로써 효과적인 응집성 교수 방안을마련하고자 하였다. 먼저 계획 단계에서는 필자의 정체성,독자의 특성,필자와 독자의 관계를 확인하고 동시에 글쓰기의 목적과 결과를 설정한다.다음으로 집필 단계에서는 관습적인 글쓰기 양식의 구조를 참고하여 단락의 기능 및 배열 패턴을 설정한다.더불어 글의 제목과 텍스트 응집성 간의 관계를 인지함으로써 텍스트를 이루는 단락들의 내용을 아우르는 제목을 설정한다.마지막으로 수정 단계에서는 구조화 문장,소주제문,결속기제,담화표지 등과 같은 “응집성 조정 장치”를 활용하여 단절된 응집성을 조정할 수있다.

영문 초록

This study provides concrete items for the explicit teaching of coherence in college writing education based on elements that contribute to construct coherence. Factors that contribute to coherence include text-based factors and reader-based factors. How these factors contribute to coherence is complicated. Although coherence is an important quality for effective writing, it is often considered an abstract and fuzzy concept that is difficult to teach. Thus, this study attempts to provide effective teaching methods of coherence by defining coherence in more concrete terms. First, student writers need to consider writer identity, audience, and their relationship and identify the object and the intended outcome of the writing in the planning process. Second, student writers need to organize paragraphs according to general patterns of the structure of conventional writing and identify the function of each paragraph. Then, they should determine which titles are available for linking paragraphs to one another. Third, student writers can use “coherence-controlling devices” to reconstruct coherence in the revising process. These include structuring sentences, topic sentences, cohesive ties and discourse markers.
