국문 초록

[연구목적] 본 연구는 주거래은행의 재무성과가 대출기업의 이익조정에 미치는 영향을 분석하는데 목적이 있다. [연구방법] 주거래은행의 재무성과는 BIS 자기자본비율, 자기자본이익률, 그리고무수익여신으로 측정했으며, 대출기업의 이익조정은 수정존스모형을 적용한 재량적 발생액으로 측정하였다. [연구결과] 연구 분석결과, 주거래은행의 BIS 자기자본비율과 대출기업들의 재량적 발생액은 유의한 양(＋)의 관계를 나타냈다. 또한, 주거래은행의 무수익여신과대출기업의 재량적 발생액은 유의한 음(－)의 관계를 나타냈다. [연구의 시사점] 본 연구는 주거래은행의 재무성과수준에 따라 대출기업의 이익조정의 유인이 다를 수 있음을 제시함으로써, 주거래은행의 재무성과가 대출기업의이익조정의 중요한 결정요인임을 밝혀냈다는 데에 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

[Purpose]In this study, we examine the effect of the financial performance of main banks on earnings management of borrowing firms. [Methodology]The BIS capital ratio, the return on equity ratio, and the non－performing loans of main banks are used to measure main banks’ financial performance. The modified Jones discretionary accruals is used to measure the earnings management of borrowing firms. [Findings]Results of this study indicate that the association between discretionary accruals of borrowing firms and the BIS capital ratio of main banks is significantly positive. In addition, the association between discretionary accruals of borrowing firms and the non－performing loans of main banks is significantly negative. Overall, our results support relationship banking and the financial performance of main banks plays a significant role in the earnings management of borrowing firms. [Implications]We find that financial performance of main banks is an important determinant for the earnings management of borrowing firms.
