유구의 전통 신앙과 종교

국문 초록

지금은 일본의 오키나와현(沖繩縣)이 된 과거의 琉球는 부락·부족시대를 시작으로 城廓을 축조한 구스쿠시대를 거쳐 통일왕국시대로 들어오면서 정치적 경제적으로 안정된 시대를 맞이한다. 약 450년간 독자적인 문화를 지닌 통일왕국은 남해 해상무역의 중심지로 동남 및 서남아시아, 그리고 중국·한반도·일본열도 등을 연결하는 통상의 교량적 역할로 대외적 위상을 높이며 풍요로운 시기를 유지하였다. 그러나 대내적으로는 전통문화를 존중하며 독특한 고대신앙 형태를 유지하였다. 그러므로 섬에서 생활한 사람들은 혈연으로 연결된 집단으로 공동체 의식도 강하였다. 사람들과 촌락사회는 밀접하게 연결되어 다른 지역 촌락과의 사회적 교류가 거의 없었기 때문에 마을을 벗어날 기회도 적었다. 혼인 형태도 사촌을 비롯한 친족을 중심으로 섬 내의 결혼이 관습화되어 극히 폐쇄적인 생활을 하고 있었다. 그러므로 농민들의 대부분은 마을에서 벗어나 생활하는 일은 거의 없었다. 그래서 섬 공간은 각각 대립하는 이야기를 전하는, 조상신이나 초자연 신과 관련된 성역과 세계관을 가지고 있었다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 유구 문화의 특징인 역사 속의 종교 발생과 고유종교와 관련된 전통 신앙을 중심으로 유구의 민간신앙의 원류를 고찰하고 한국의 당산이나 성황당과의 관련성을 유추하고자 하였다.

영문 초록

The Ryukyu, which has now become the Okinawa Prefecture in Japan, faces an era of political and economic stability as it enters the era of the unified kingdom, starting with the era of villages and tribes, through the era of Gusuku, which built the castle. For about 450 years, the Unified Kingdom, which had its own culture, was the center of maritime trade in the South Sea and maintained its position as a bridge between Southeast and Southwest Asia, and China, the Korean Peninsula, and the Japanese Islands. But internally, it respected traditional culture and maintained a unique form of ancient belief. Therefore, people who lived on the island were connected by blood and had a strong sense of community.People and the village society were closely connected and had few opportunities to leave the village because they had little social interaction with other local villages. Marriage forms were also extremely closed as marriages on the island were customary around cousins and relatives. Therefore, most of the peasants rarely lived out of the village. So the island space had a sanctuary and a worldview related to the ancestral gods or the supernatural gods, each telling a conflicting story.In this paper, we will consider the origin of the folk belief of the Ryukyu, focusing on the traditional faith related to the occurrence of religion in history and the indigenous religion, which is characteristic of this Ryukyu culture, and also infer the relation between Dangsan and Seonghwangdang in Korea.
