EBS 수능교육방송이 고등학생들의 학업성취도에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

본 연구는 한국교육고용패널의 1차 조사와 2차 조사 자료를 결합하여 EBS 수능방송 수강여부가 수능성적에 미친 효과를 분석하였다. 분석 결과, EBS 수능방송을 시청한 학생들의 수능성적이 그렇지 않은 학생들의 수능성적보다 높은 것으로 나타나 EBS 수능방송이 학생들의 학업성취도 향상에 도움을 준 것으로 분석되었다. EBS 수능방송의 효과는 영역별로는 수리 영역에서 상대적으로 큰 것으로 분석되었다. 한편, 조건부 분위회귀 분석 결과, EBS 수능방송은 상위권 학생보다는 하위권 학생들에게 더 큰 도움을 준 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 EBS 수능방송이 학생 간 교육격차 해소에 기여하고 있다는 것을 시사하며, EBS 수능방송의 긍정적인 효과가 지속될 경우 사교육비 지출 감소에도 어느 정도 긍정적인 역할을 할 것으로 예상된다.

영문 초록

This study uses the first and the second rounds survey of Korean Education and Employment Panel (KEEP) to examine the effect of the EBS College Scholastic Aptitude Test (EBS CSAT) program on the CSAT score of high school students. The empirical results show evidence that the EBS CSAT program has a positive effect on the students’ performance on CSAT. While the positive effect of the EBS program was consistent in all areas of the CSAT, the size of the effect was largest in math. In addition, the conditional quantile regression result suggests a differential effect among students, in which the EBS CSAT program benefited less-able students more than able students. This finding implies that the EBS CSAT program can play an important role in reducing the educational gap among students and alleviating parents’ financial burden of providing private tutoring for their children.
