국문 초록

본 연구는 국가 간 비교를 통해 한국의 베이비부머의 특성을 살펴보고 노후생활 및 준비에 대해 논의해 보고자 한국, 미국, 영국의 패널을 이용하여 비교분석을 실시하였다. 각 국가의 베이비부머의 특성은 신체적 건강과 심리사회적 영역을 통하여 살펴보았다. KLoSA 2010년 자료의 1955~1961년생 1814명, HRS 2004년 자료의 1946~1953년생의 4321명, ELSA의 2004년 자료의 1945~1954년생의 2914명이 최종분석대상이 되었으며 기술 분석 및 교차 분석과 분산 분석을 통하여 세 국가 간 차이가 있는지 살펴보았다. 분석 결과, 첫째, 신체적 건강 영역에서 한국의 베이비부머는 만성질환진단 및 개수에서 다른 국가와 비교하여 양호한 것으로 나타나지만 주관적인 건강상태는 좋지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 세 국가 중에서 한국의 베이비부머의 우울감 수준이 유의하게 가장 높게 나타났다. 셋째, 한국의 베이비부머의 여가문화 및 자원봉사 활동의 사회적 활동 참여 정도가 다른 국가와 비교할 때 매우 낮았다. 넷째, 한국 베이비부머의 일자리에 대한 기대감이 다른 국가에 비하여 높은 것으로 나타났다. 다섯째, 한국의 베이비부머는 가족 및 자녀와의 관계의 질에서 다른 국가들과 비교하여 중간 정도의 순위를 보였으나 친구들과의 접촉빈도를 살펴본 결과 가장 높은 것으로 나타났다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to examine the physical health and psychosocial characteristics of Korean babyboomers and to discuss their preparation for old age by the comparison with US and UK. The sample was obtained from the representative panel data of KLoSA (Korea) in 2010, HRS (US) in 2004 and ELSA (UK) in 2004. A total of 9,041 babyboomers were used for the analysis and the descriptive analysis, ANOVA and chi-square analysis was conducted to explore the difference of physical health and psychosocial characteristics between babyboomers of three nations. Results showed that first, Korean babyboomers had lower subjective health condition while they had relatively smaller numbers of diagnosed chronic disease than babyboomers of US and UK. Second, Korean babyboomers showed the highest level of depression among three nations. Third, the level of social engagement such as cultural or leisure activity and volunteering was significantly lower than that of US and UK. Forth, the expectation toward continuous employment of Korean babyboomers was higher than that of US and UK. Fifth, Korean babyboomers reported more frequent contact with friends than babyboomers of US and UK. They have higher level of the quality of relationship with family members and children than babyboomers of US and lower level than babyboomers of UK.
