박근형 희곡 <만주전선>에 나타난 역사의 소환과 재현 양상

국문 초록

이 연구에서는 박근형의 희곡 <만주전선>에 나타난 역사의 소환과 재현의 양상을 고찰하였다. <만주전선>은 전복적인 시선으로 식민의 역사를 재조명하고, 현재의 지평에서 과거의 역사적 기억을 새롭게 재전유하고 있는 작품이다. 이 작품은 탈근대 역사극으로서 기존의 역사극과는 전혀 다른 새로운 의미의 지형을 형성하고 있는 ‘박근형식 역사극’의 특징을 잘 드러내고 있을 뿐만 아니라 왜곡/굴절된 한국의 근현대사를 바라보는 박근형의 문제적인 시선과 그러한 역사를 무대화하는 역사 재현의 의도를 분명하게 담지하고 있다. 무엇보다 이 극은 박근형 특유의 드라마트루기 전략들을 토대로 식민지 역사에 대한 관객-대중의 고정된 인식과 공고화된 집단 기억을 전복, 해체시키고 지배적인 시선에서 벗어나 새로운 관점에서 역사를 재조명한다. 식민의 역사를 소환하는 유형화된 서사 관습과 재현의 코드를 거부하고 있는 이 작품은 풍자와 조롱, 과장과 아이러니의 기법들을 통해 청산되지 못한 역사적 문제를 환기시킨다. 이 연구는 역사극을 역사에 대한 메타 담론으로서, 문화적 기억을 새롭게 주조해내는 ‘기억하기’의 문화적 실천 행위로서 바라보고 해석하고자 하는 시각을 전제로 하였으며, 이를 토대로 식민 역사의 극적 재현의 과정 속에서 길항/충돌하고 기억/망각되며 새롭게 재구성되는 문화적 기억의 양상과 그 의미는 무엇이며, 그것이 오늘날 관객-대중에게 미치는 영향과 효과는 무엇인지를 고찰해보고자 했다.

영문 초록

This study investigates historical recall and representation patterns in The Front Line of Manchuria, a play by Park Geun-hyeong. The Front Line of Manchuria sheds new light on the history of colonization with a subversive viewpoint and refreshes the exclusive possession of historical memories in the past again along the current horizon. As a postmodern historical play, it clearly demonstrates the characteristics of a “Park Geun-hyeong-style historical play,” which has formed a topography of completely different significance in comparison to the old historical plays. It also reflects Park s problematic and distorted perspective on Korea’s modern and contemporary history and his intention for the historical reenactment to depict history on the stage. Most of all, through Park’s unique dramaturgical strategies, The Front Line of Manchuria overturns and deconstructs the audience fixed perception of colonial history and their collective memory, and sheds new light on history from a fresh perspective that transcends the dominant viewpoint. Rejecting the codes of categorized narrative custom and reenactment to summon colonial history, the play awakens the audience to unsettled historical issues through its clever use of satire, mockery, exaggeration, and irony. Based on a premise that views and interprets a historical play as a meta-discourse about history and an act of cultural practice in “remembering” to create new cultural memories, the present study examines the patterns of cultural memories that were in rivalry/clash, memory/oblivion, and being reorganized in the process of colonial history’s dramatic reenactment. Additionally, its assesses their influence on the present-day public.
