중국 내 대학 한국어 전공자의 어휘 학습 전략 개발 방안

국문 초록

한국어 전공 학습자는 언어 능력 향상 이외에 한국에 관한 폭넓은 지식(내용)을 학습하기 위해 많은 어휘를 학습해야 한다. 어휘 학습 전략은 학습자가 자기주도적 어휘 학습이 될 수 있도록 도와줄 뿐만 아니라 학습자가 자율적으로 학습 과정을 꾸준히 이끌어 나갈 수 있도록 해준다. 본고에서는 이 점에 주목하여 중국 4년제 대학에서 한국어 전공 학습자의 어휘 학습 전략 사용을 파악하고 어휘 학습 교육에 시사점을 얻고자 하였다. 이를 위해서 Schmitt(1997)의 어휘 학습 전략 분류표를 학습자에게 맞도록 수정·보완하여 설문조사를 실시하였고, 교수자에게는 어휘 전략에 대한 인식과 어휘 지도 사용 양상을 살펴보았다. 그 결과 한국어 전공 학습자는 어휘 학습을 위해 다양한 전략이 필요함을 인지하고 있었고 어휘 의미를 파악하고 의미를 오랫동안 기억하기 위해서 다양한 전략을 사용하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 한국어 전공 교수자는 학습자에게 한국어 어휘 학습 전략이 필요함을 인식하고 있었으며 어휘 지도를 위해 다양한 전략을 활용하고 있지만 제한된 수업 시간에 많은 양의 어휘를 지도해야 하는 어려움과 체계적인 어휘 지도를 위한 자료가 필요함을 알 수 있었다. 이런 결과는 향후 중국 내 대학의 한국어 전공 학습자를 위한 어휘 전략 교육의 방향을 모색하는 데 시사점이 될 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

Students majoring in the Korean Language are required to not only demonstrate a fluent grasp of the language but also to comprehend a wide range of Korea-related knowledge and content. Therefore, building learners’ Korean vocabulary using strategies that help with self-directed learning is essential. The research aimed to investigate how students majoring in the Korean language in Chinese four-year universities gave attention to vocabulary learning and building, as well as their use of vocabulary learning strategies. Based on this, appropriate pedagogical methods to improve vocabulary learning strategies were proposed. To this end, a survey targeting Chinese students majoring in the Korean language was conducted, based on a revised and supplemented version of the vocabulary learning strategy classification table which originates from Schmitt(1997). The analysis was performed to inspire professors instructing Korean language programs to pay increased attention to strategies used in vocabulary learning and teaching. In the study, learners claimed that various strategies were used which proved necessary in building their vocabulary. Results also showed that even though instructors were aware of the necessity of vocabulary learning strategies and were utilizing them, the strategies were perceived as inadequate for the task of teaching a large amount of vocabulary within limited class time. Participants also showed expectations for more efficient materials on systematic vocabulary learning. These results shed light on the need to refine the vocabulary learning strategies used in the instruction of Korean language majors in Chinese universities.
