국문 초록

본 논문은 금융기관의 신용리스크관리에서 특수금융(specialized lending)과 같이 부도 건수가 없거나 거의 존재하지 않는 LDP(low default portfolios)에서 관리되는 신용등급의 PD(probability of default)를 추정하는 방법을 연구하였다. 이를 위해 LDP 신용등급에 분류된 업체들의 부도발생이 독립인 경우와 종속인 경우를 구분하여 각 경우에 적합한 PD모형의 제안과 함께 신용등급별 PD상한을 추정하는 방법을 제시하였다. 실증적인 예로 A은행의 특수금융 자료를 사용하여 신용등급별 PD상한을 주어진 부도발생건수확률에 따라 추정하였으며, 이를 통해 제안된 모형 및 추정법의 유용성을 평가하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to propose a methodology to estimate PDs for the low default portfolios such as specialized lending which observe no defaults or a very low number of defaults. To that end, borrowers of the low default portfolios(hereinafter LDP ) are classified into two depending on whether the occurrence of default events are uncorrelated or correlated. Based on the classification, we propose a method of estimating the PD upper bounds per rating grade as well as a PD model most suitable to each case. Using specialized lending data from Bank A as a substantial example, an upper bound default rate is estimated according to a given default probability, based on which we are going to assess how useful both the proposed estimation method and model are.
