국문 초록

1719년은 숙종이 59세가 되어 기로소에 들어갔고, 조선 조정은 이를 기념하기 위해 기로연을 베풀었다. 이때 70세 이상의 대신 10명이 모여 친목을 도모하며 글을 짓고 그들의 초상화를 그려 50면의 화첩을 만들었다. 이것이 <기사계첩(耆社契帖)>이며, 1978년 보물 제639호로 지정되었다. 이 화첩과 함께 제작한 포장용품 3종류가 현존하여 주목된다. 먼저 이것을 안쪽 흑칠 상자에 담고, 다시 쪽빛 무명 호갑으로 싼 다음, 마지막으로 바깥쪽 흑칠 궤에 넣어 두었다. 화첩은 이러한 3중 구조의 포장장치로 인해 온전하게 보존될 수 있었다. 그동안 이 화첩에 대해서는 많은 연구가 있었으나, 이에 대해서는 한 번도 연구된 바가 없었다. 따라서 본 연구를 통해 조선 후기 화첩은 상자-가방-궤의 3중 포장 구조로 보관하였음을 알 수 있었으며, 각각의 공예품을 통해 당시 목공예와 염직공예 및 가죽공예의 기술적 성취를 엿볼 수 있었다. 아울러 본 연구를 통해 조선 후기에 왕실이나 사대부와 관련된 최상급 공예품을 보관하기 위해 2중 3중 봉과물의 구조를 밝힘으로써, 향후 해당 분야의 연구가 더욱 확장되길 기대해 본다.

영문 초록

In 1719, King Sukjong was 59 years old as well as the 45th year point of his accession. The royal court of Joseon held the party for him. Gisa-gyecheop is the Album of Paintings of the Gathering of Elders that is 50-page pictures compiled by the articles written by 10 retainers aged over 70 participated to commemorate this party and their portraits. This album was designated as Treasure No. 639 in 1978. This album is specialized by its three-structure package design that put it into the case painted with black lacquer in the first step, wrap it up in the indigo cotton bag made of cotton in the second step, and keep it into the chest painted with black lacquer in the last step. It is the reason why such packing structure is affected to the good status of this album until now. The existing studies has also shown for this album, however has not shown for this packing system. Therefore, this study found out the outstanding technique of the wood, dyeing, and leather crafts of in the late Joseon dynasty through three-structure packing system of a case, a bag, and a chest. In addition, this study will contribute to expand its follow-up study because it is shown that the dual or triple wrapping matrials was applied to keep the superlative craft related to the royal family or literati class.
