국문 초록

한복의 장식은 저고리의 깃, 고름, 끝동과 치마폭의 이음새에 활용되어 변화를 주는데, 이는 형태 변화가 다양하지 않은 전통한복에서 새로운 변화를 모색할 수 있는 효과적인 방법이다. 전통한복의 장식기법은 금·은박, 자수, 색동, 조각 잇기, 선치기, 상침, 잣물림, 박쥐매듭 등 다양하며 이 중 몇몇의 한국 전통 장식기법은 현재의 한복 및 특정 패션 아이템에 꾸준히 활용되고 있다. 가방은 물건을 담아 이동하는 그 이상으로 개인의 개성표현과 사회적 지위까지를 나타내는 현대인들에게 있어 중요한 패션 아이템이다. 이에 본 연구는 한국 전통 장식기법의 독창적인 공예기법을 패션 아이템 중 가방 디자인에 적용하여 실용적이면서도 독창적인 가방을 디자인하고자 하였다. 연구 내용은 우선 한국 전통 장식기법의 종류에 대한 이론적 고찰을 진행하고 이를 통해 기존 연구에 적용되어 있는 우리나라 전통 장식기법들 중 5가지 장식기법의 유형을 선정하여 다양한 형태로 재현 및 제작하였다. 이를 위해 전통 장식기법의 유형에 따른 가방의 형태, 가방과 전통기법과의 유기적인 연관성을 고려하면서 가방 디자인 작업을 진행하였다. 본 연구를 계기로 한복의 전통 장식기법에서 나타나는 조형미와 예술성을 재인식하고 독창적인 공예기법을 현대적인 패션 아이템에 적용시킴으로써 전통공예기법이 현대의 패션에 지속적으로 실용화될 수 있도록 하는 데 그 목적이 있다.

영문 초록

Traditional Korean clothing, or hanbok, creates design variations by applying decorative elements on the collar of jeogori (upper garments), goreum (coat ribbons), kkeutdong (sleeve cuffs) and the seams of skirts. Using such decorative items is an effective way to bring fresh changes to hanbok whose forms are somewhat limited in variety. There are diverse decorative elements/techniques used for hanbok, including gold or silver leaf, embroidery, saekdong (colorful stripes), quilt, applique, seonchigi (outlining), topstitch, janmullim (sometimes spelled “jatmulim” or “jatmullim”) (triangular patterns) and bakjwimaedeup (bat-shaped knots). Some of these traditional design techniques continue to be featured in modern hanbok and other fashion items. Much more than a means to carry things, bags in modern society are important fashion items that convey the wearer’s personality and even reflects their social status. As such, this study aims to suggest bag designs that are both practical and uniquely fashionable, by applying Korean traditional decorative techniques. To this end, theoretical investigations were conducted on various types of Korean traditional decorative techniques. Then, based on the investigations, five traditional techniques were selected for reproduction. During the bag design process, the form of a bag that matches each traditional decorative technique, as well as the organic association between bags and the traditional decorative techniques, were carefully considered. The purpose of this study is to raise awareness of the formal beauty and aesthetic qualities displayed by the decorative techniques of hanbok and to apply these unique handicraft techniques to a contemporary fashion item, thereby helping promoting the steady application of these techniques to contemporary fashion designs.
