국문 초록

본 연구는 지역 정체성이 새로운 이슈로 떠오른 21세기, 아세안 국가 중에서 국제사회에서 새롭게 두각을 나타내고 있으며, 무한 잠재력의 상징으로서 메콩 5개국 사람들의 삶과 문화를 담고 있는 공예에 주목한다. 메콩강을 중심으로 탄생하고 사라져갔던 많은 국가에서 공예는 그들을 구체적으로 드러내는 특징적인 의미이다. 메콩강만의 고유의 양식을 보여주고 있는 공예의 문화적 가치는 분명하다. 그러나 메콩강 문화에 대한 여러 관심에도 불구하고, 특히 동남아시아 지역문화의 근원이며 문화적 정체성을 담고 있는 공예에 관한 연구는 극히 소수에 불과해 그들의 문화를 이해하기에는 부족하며, 메콩 공예에 대한 진지한 담론이 필요한 이유이다. 본 연구는 Ⅱ장에서는 메콩 국가들에 대한 지리적·사회적·문화적 특성에 대한 분석을 통해 공예의 배경을 확인한다. Ⅲ장에서는 다른 문화권들과 마찬가지로 그 의도, 구조와 표현방식에서 개념적, 재료적, 기법적, 표현적 구분 및 차이가 명확한 국가별 대표적 공예와 그 배경을 소개하고 분석함으로써, 메콩 공예의 특성에 대해 살펴본다. 이를 통해 현대사회에서 다양한 모습으로 기능하고 있는 메콩 공예의 변화와 발전 가능성을 예측해본다. 메콩 국가들의 공예에 관한 이 연구는 메콩 문화에 대한 중요한 이해와 판단의 바탕을 제공할 수 있을 것이다. 또한, 이 연구가 우리나라와의 문화적 교류의 성공적인 추진을 위한 선구적인 역할을 하는 것에 그 목적이 있다.

영문 초록

The study looks into the newly rising issue of the 21st century on local identity as this is the recent phenomenon in the globalization of the societal in ASEAN countries. The focus is on crafts, based on the life style and culture of the people of the Five Mekong Countries as there exists infinite symbolic possibilities in their local identity. Centered around the Mekong River, over the centuries many countries or more specially cultures were born and then disappeared. Crafts is their concrete and significant representation. The cultural value presented inherently by the Mekong River is prominent. However in spite of the focus on the culture of the Mekong River, especially it being the origin of Southeast Asian regional culture, researches on cultural identity particularly related to crafts is far lacking. As a result serious discourse on the crafts of Mekong River is desperately needed. In this study, Chapter Ⅱ analyzes the geographical, social and cultural characteristics in order to comprehend the craft foundation of the Mekong countries. In Chapter III the objective, structure and expressive methods, similar to other cultures, are introduced based on concept, material, technique, expression on each of the Mekong countries to differentiate the similarities and differences through their most representational crafts simultaneously as analyzing their backgrounds. The basis to this research method is to understand the different characteristics of the Five Mekong countries. Through this transitions and developments possible in today’s contemporary society in all its diversity is examined. This study focusing on the crafts of Mekong countries, hopes to contribute to understanding and examining the importance of Mekong culture simultaneously as playing a role in further expanding cultural exchanges between the Republic of Korea and Mekong countries.
