영문 초록

Drawing on a personally built genre-focused learner corpus of English, this study explores lexical selectional errors of Korean EFL learners, tagged as [X-CHOICE], combining its word class and surface structure information, and [COLLOCATION]. Based on a qualitative approach, it carries out a contextual analysis of lexical errors. The corpus incorporates 10,078 words of English emails written by 100 undergraduates (freshmen) in a university, Daegu, South Korea. It reveals that verb selectional errors were most frequent in the corpus, of 118 lexical errors, accounting for 42%, followed by adjective (20%), noun (17%), collocation (11%), and adverb (10%) selectional errors. The contextual analysis reveals that lexical errors tend to reflect learners’ mother tongue usages in both advanced and beginning levels, as in the cases of ‘my biggest sister’ or ‘obvious dream’.
