국문 초록

한국과 세계의 고등교육이 인성교육과 시민교육을 중요시하고 있는 시대적 상황에서 대학생들의 인성과 시민성 함양을 위한 교육 프로그램 개발 및 운영이 필요하다. 이 논문에서는 대학생들의 인성과 시민성 함양을 위한 교육 프로그램을 구상할 때 고려할 수 있는 사항에 대해 논의하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 다중방식 소통 시대에 세계와 지역에서 성공적으로 살아가기 위해 요구되는 글로컬 인성 및 시민성을 교육하기 위한 프로그램 개발에 이론적ㆍ실제적 자료를 제공하는 것이다. 이를 위해 인성교육과 시민교육이라는 개념을 다시 정의해 보고, 대학생 인성교육과 시민교육을 위한 프로그램 구상에서 고려할 사항에 대해 관련 연구 및 사례를 인용하여 내용ㆍ방법ㆍ평가ㆍ예시 등을 중심으로 알아보았다. 먼저, 인성교육은 ‘자신과 타자의 상호 의존성에 기반이 되는 태도와 행동을 개발하는 것’으로, 시민교육은 ‘사람들이 중대한 사회적인 사안을 공동으로 결정하고 자신의 생활과 공동체를 위해 책임지는 능력과 스킬을 계발하는 것’으로 보다 포괄적인 정의를 시도하였다. 이어서, 인성교육 프로그램 구상을 위해 필요한 내용을 국내외 사례를 토대로 로컬과 글로벌 차원에서 정리하였다. 마지막으로, 시민교육 프로그램 구상의 방향에 대해 사례 중심으로 논의하였다. 대학의 상황에 따라 다양한 인성교육과 시민교육 프로그램을 구상할 수 있을 것이다. 기존의 교양이나 전공 교과에 통합하는 것도 가능하다. 인성교육과 시민교육을 병행하는 융복합 과목을 개발하거나 비교과 프로그램을 개발하는 것도 고려할 만하다. 특히 교사교육 프로그램에 도입하여 초중등학교와 대학에서의 인성교육과 시민교육이 연계성을 확보는 일이 필요하다. 아무리 좋은 교육 프로그램이라도 체계적인 투입이 가능해야 효과를 기대할 수 있다. 특히 인성교육이나 시민교육을 담당하는 교수들 스스로 인성교육과 시민교육에서 언급되는 덕목을 갖추는 일이 선행되어야 한다. 교수들이 직접 참여하기 어려운 상황이라면, 인성교육과 시민교육을 전담하는 인력이 있어야 하고, 이를 위해서는 대학원에 협동과정 등의 형태로 학제적 연구 기반이 마련되어야 한다. 로컬 사회나 글로벌 사회에서 많은 문제들이 인성과 시민성의 결여에서 비롯되는 경우가 많기 때문에, 한국 대학에서의 이러한 노력이 절실하다.

영문 초록

The current article aims at conceiving local and global programs for enhancing Korean students’ Character and Citizenship in the glocal era in order to offer some theoretical and practical comments for developing educational programs required in the multimodal communication society. For this purpose, the terms such as character and citizenship were redefined in the broader global dimension than other definitions. Drawn upon contents, methods, assessments, examples of international researches and cases, some issues related to developing glocal education programs of character and citizenship for students was discussed. Firstly, character education is defined as developing attitudes and behaviors as a basis of interdependence between self and others, and civic education as developing abilities and skills necessary to make decide the important social issues together and to be responsible for one’s own life and glocal communities. Secondly, it is suggested what we give attention to for conceiving local and global character education based on the domestic and overseas cases. Finally, direction of the education for local and global citizenship is discussed. It could be considered that a variety of programs for character and citizenship education are conceived depending on the situation of each colleges and universities. For instance, it is possible to integrate to existing classes, to develop a stand-alone course or to plan extra-curricular workship. Especially, it is necessary to ensure that the programs are connected with pre-teacher education curriculum to link the processes of character and citizenship education at elementary, secondary and tertiary level. Furthermore, it is critical that educators have the mind-set regarding good character and citizenship. Further studies on the designing concrete courses and lesson plan should be continued for benefiting from character and citizenship education.
