국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 중학교 과학영재와 물리 전공대학생이 얼음이 녹는 두 가지 상황의 실험 결과를 예측하는 과정에서 나타나는 특징을 비교하는 것이었다. 이를 중학교 과학영재 54명과 물리 전공 대학생 33명을 대상으로 POE방법을 사용하여 조사하였다. 분석 결과, 과학영재들은 두 가지 상황을 종합하여 사고하지 않고 예측을 하는 경향이 있었으며, 대학생들은 두 가지 상황을 종합하지만 올바른 과학적 추론을 하는 데 어려움이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 두 집단 모두 예측 가설을 세우는데 사용한 주요 변인은 온도였으며, 전도율, 비열, 접촉면 등을 사용하여 예측하는 것으로 나타났다. 불일치 사례에 대해 과학영재들은 자신의 이론이 틀렸을 수 있다는 점에서 다양한 가능성을 모색하였지만, 대학생들은 자신의 이론을 고수하고, 실험 결과를 수용하지 않으려는 경향이 있는 것으로 나타났다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to compare the characteristics of middle school science gifted students and physics major undergraduates in predicting the experiment results of ice melting. This study was conducted using the POE (Prediction-Observation-Explanation) method for 54 middle school science gifted students and 33 physics major undergraduates. As a result of analysis, gifted students tended to make predictions without considering the two situations, and undergraduate students compared the two situations but have difficulty in making the right scientific reasoning. In both groups, the main variable used to make the prediction hypothesis was temperature, and the other ones were conductivity, specific heat, and contact surface and so on. In the case of cognitive conflict, the gifted students looked for various possibilities in that their theory might be wrong, but undergraduate students tended to stick to their theory and not accept experiment results.
