Postmodern 도예에 전개된 분장장식의 매체 연구

국문 초록

본 논문은 포스트모던 도예의 한 유형으로 등장한 회화적 분장장식 작품을 중심으로 표현기법과 활용 매체를 분석한 것이다. 이 연구를 통해 도자기벽에 대한 인식변화와 함께 분장을 응용한 작품전개 양상에 따른 그 특징을 결론으로 제시한다. 도자기벽에 대한 인식변화는 다양한 표현기법 및 장식기법과 채색기법에서의 발전을 필두로 한 포스트모던 미술의 전개와도 관련이 있다. 화가의 내면적인 이야기를 내러티브(narrative) 형식으로 형상화하는 경향을 수용하여 도예가도 기벽을 마치 회화의 캔버스와 같은 표현매체로 인식하게 되면서 포스트모던 도예는 탈장르 현상이 가속화되어 표현의 주제와 내용 또한 순수미술의 그것들과 크게 다르지 않게 되었다. 이러한 포스트모던 도예가 60년대 이후 펑크 도예(Funk), 슈퍼 오브제(Super Objet)와 같은 표현 형식으로 전개되면서 점토와 회화의 속성이 결합되는 다양한 유형들이 탄생되었다. 따라서 포스트모던 도예에서의 장식기법은 전통적인 의미에서의 장식성이 아니라 작가 중심의 주체적 표현 공간으로 변모하게 된 것이다. 본 연구는 포스트모던 도예에서 활용된 분장장식으로서의 회화매체를 크게 두 유형으로 분류하였다. 하나는 도예 작품의 기벽에 회화적 표현 요소로서 분장장식의 시문기법, 채색기법, 문양(pattern) 등을 활용한 도예이다. 다른 하나는 다양한 점토 매체에 문양, 표면장식, 수화, 액션퍼포먼스 등을 구사한 도자 오브제이다. 결론적으로 점토 매체와 회화적 기법을 활용해온 포스트모던 도예의 특징은 전통적 장식에서 벗어나 회화적, 입체적 조형의 확산이다. 또한 분장장식 매체는 도예가의 작가적 심상을 다양하게 구현하는 표현영역으로 정착되었고, 관람자와의 교감을 확대하는 등 회화 장식 매체로의 인식 전환도 가능하게 한 것이다.

영문 초록

This thesis is a research analysis of expressive technique and utilization medium based on pictorial slip decoration artworks as a type of postmodern ceramic arts. Through this research, characteristics of various artwork development by the application of slip decoration has been analyzed along with perception-changing aspects of ceramic surface. The perception change of the ceramic surface is closely related with the trend in postmodern arts regarding development of expressive, decorative and coloration techniques. By accepting the trend of imagery to introspect artists in a narrative form, ceramic artists were also able to perceive the ceramic surface as a medium of expression similar to that of canvas in painting. This phenomenon has accelerated genre deconstruction in the field of ceramic arts, so that ceramic arts share much aspects of the theme and content with the fine arts field. Since 1960s, multifarious form of expression in ceramic arts, such as Funk, Super Objet, has emerged, which combined different properties of clay and paintings. Decoration in postmodern ceramic arts has transformed from traditional meaning to represent the artist-centered autonomous expression space. This research classifies the pictorial medium of postmodern ceramic slip decoration in two categories. First category is the writings, coloration and pattern in the surface of ceramic artworks as a form of pictorial expression. The other category consists of ceramic objet such as pattern, handpainting, and action performance. In conclusion, characteristics of postmodern ceramic arts has deviated from traditional aspects of decoration and expanded its form to pictorial and stereoscopic formative arts. In addition, slip decoration has established its form to express the imagery of ceramic artists, whilst leading the paradigm of changing its perception to becoming the pictorial medium by expanding communion with the audience.
