조선후기 선산지역 재지사족의 동향과 원사 건립 추이

국문 초록

본 논문은 조선후기 선산지역 재지사족의 동향과 서원·사우의 건립추이를 개관하고, 안강노씨 가문의 문산서원 건립 사례를 파악한 것이다. 선산은 조선전기의 사상계와 관계를 주도하였던 인물들이 대거 배출된 지역이었다. 길재 이래로 충절과 도학의 양 갈래로 문풍이 이어지면서 이를 계승한 인물들을 선정하여 鄕十賢으로 칭송하였다. 특히 길재-(김숙자)김종직-정붕-박영으로 이어지는 선산지역 도통은 박영에 이르러 많은 문인을 양성하면서 16세기 초반 松堂學團을 형성하였다. 그러나 16세기 말 이래로 현달한 인물이 부재한 가운데 선산지역 재지사족들은 인근의 여헌·우복·서애학단으로 편입되어 갔다. 이런 분위기 속에서 박영의 문인들을 중심으로 길재에서 박영으로 이어지는 도학자 4인에 대한 금오서원 건립이 추진되었다. 이후 금오서원에 제향되지 못한 나머지 6인은 월암서원과 낙봉서원을 건립하여 제향하였다. 나아가 이들 서원이 모두 사액되면서 선산지역 향촌 사회는 향십현의 후손들이 실질적으로 주도해 나갔다. 선산에는 이들 향현의 가문 외에도 유력한 가문들이 있었다. 이들 가문 역시 17세기 이래로 문중서원을 건립하면서 향촌 내 기득권을 유지하고자 했다. 그렇지만 조정의 금령으로 인해 서원 건립이 어려운 상황이어서 사우로 건립하였다가 추후 서원으로 승원하는 것이 일반적이었다. 일례로 안강노씨는 노계정과 노상추 조손이 무과로 사환하여 현달한 이래, 노상추의 아들과 손자, 조카들 역시 무과로 출사하면서 18세기 중반 이후 가문의 위상이 제고되었다. 18세기 후반 문산사 건립과 19세기 초반의 문산서원 승원은 이러한 가문의 위상과 관련이 깊었다. 실제 선산지역 서원과 사우는 해당 가문의 위상, 조정의 정책, 지방관의 성향, 제향인의 색목 등이 복합적으로 작용하여 건립과 승원이 결정되었다.

영문 초록

This study takes a general view of Jaejisajok’s (a local noble family) trend in developing Seowon·Sau, and identifies the case of Munsanseowon construction by Angang Noh’s family. The Seonsan region has produced many figures who led the world of thought in various institutes in the early Joseon Dynasty. In particular, since Giljae, the academic spirit had been continued in two parts, allegiance and moral philosophy, and the people succeeded to it were selected and praised as Hyangsiphyun (10 wise men of the country village). Dotong (道 統: line continued to Neo-Confucianism) in the Seonsan region followed by Giljae-(Kim Sook-ja) Kim Jong-jik-Jeong Boong-Park Young fostered many intellectuals in Park Young’s period, and formed Songdanhakdan (松堂學團: a group learned from Park Young) in the early 16th century. However, since the end of 16th century, without figures who attain eminence and acquitting fame, Jaejisajok in the Seonsan region was transferred to Yeoheon, Woobok, and Seae Hakdan. The construction of Keumoseowon(金烏書院), for four moralists from Gilje to Park Young centered on the literati in this atmosphere, was promoted. Later, Wolamseowon and Nakbongseowon, for the other six local worthies who couldn’t get the sacrificial rite at Keumoseowon, was established. Furthermore, as these Seowon became the shrines with a royal charter, the rural society in Seonsan was led practically by the descendants of Hyansiphyun(鄕十賢). Beside the families of these local worthies, there were powerful families in Seonsan. These families also constructed Munjoongseowon(門中書院) in the 17th century and tried to maintain their vested rights. However, it was common to build Sau and promote to Seowon in difficult situations to build Seowon due to the government’s prohibition. In case of Angang Noh’s family, since Noh Gyejeong and Noh San-choo, a grandfather and grandchild entered into government service by way of military examination and gained a reputation, Noh Sang-choo’s son, grandchild, and nephews also entered government service by way of military examination and the family’s status was improved from the middle of 18th century. In fact, the construction of Munsansa(文山祠) in the late 18th century and the promotion of Munsanseowon(文山書院) in the early 19th century was deeply related to the status of these families. Seowon and Sau in the Seonsan region decided in the construction and promotion by combining the status of relevant families, government policies, the political orientation of the local government, and the political color of people in a sacrificial rite.
