빨치산의 기억으로 본 한국전쟁기 민간인학살

국문 초록

이 글은 역사적 사건이라 할 수 있는 전남 함평 불갑산지역 민간인 학살 사례를 개인의 구술증언을 통해 바라보고 있다. 한국전쟁기 민간인 학살에 대한 연구는 2000년 이후부터 활발하게 전개되어, 상당한 수준의 연구성과가 축적되었다. 특히 한국전쟁기 민간인학살 연구는 ‘아래로부터의 역사’와 ‘기억정치’라는 부분에서 상당히 큰 역할을 하였으며, 한국전쟁 이후 주류담론으로 편입하지 못했던 많은 ‘잊혀진 기록’들을 공식적 역사의 수준으로 끌어올렸다. 하지만 아직까지 한국사회에서 분단이라는 상황은 사물을 평가하고 해석하는데 중요한 영향을 미치고 있으며, 이로 인해 과거 ‘적군’이었던 빨치산이나 인민군을 통해 역사적 사건을 해석하는 것은 그리 많은 연구가 나오지 않고 있는 실정이다. 이 논문은 한국전쟁 당시 전남 함평 불갑산지역에서 빨치산으로 활동하였던 사람의 기억을 통해 한국전쟁 당시의 상황과 불갑산지역 민간인 학살 사건을 재구성하고 있다. 이러한 시도는 분단상황과 레드 콤플렉스 등에 의해 일원화되었던 역사의 해석을 다양한 방식으로 확장할 수 있도록 도와줄 수 있고, 또한 민간인학살과 같은 사건을 좀 더 객관적인 시각에서 볼 수 있도록 도와준다.

영문 초록

This article looks at the cases of civilian massacre in Hampyeong Bulgapsan area, Jeonnam, through specific oral testimony. The research on civilian killings during the Korean War has been actively conducted since 2000, and considerable research achievements have been accumulated. In particular, the study of civilian genocide during the Korean War played a significant role in the areas of history from below and memory politics, bringing many forgotten records that were not incorporated into mainstream discourse after the Korean War to the level of official history. However, the situation of division in Korean society has an important influence on evaluating and interpreting things. Therefore, there is not much research on interpreting historical events through the partisans or the Army od North Korea, which was the former enemy. This paper reconstructs the situation at the time of the Korean War and the massacre of civilians in the Bubapsan area through the memory of a person who worked as a partisan in Hampyeong Bupyeongsan area during the Korean War. Such attempts can help to expand the interpretation of history unified by the situation of division and the “Red Complex” in various ways, and also to provide a more objective view of events such as the killing of civilians.
