구술생활사로 본 격동기 아동의 삶과 아동에 대한 인식

국문 초록

이 글은 일제강점기와 6.25전쟁, 그리고 산업화의 시기를 겪은 부산지역 노년세대를 대상으로 채록한 구술생활사를 통해 격동기 아동의 실제 삶과, 그 시기 부모세대의 아동 인식에 대해 살핀 것이다. 구술생활사에 나타난 격동기 아동의 삶을 보면, 일제강점기의 침탈당한 초등교육 현장이 여실히 드러난다. 학생들은 일제의 조선어말살정책에 시달렸으며, 공부 대신 태평양전쟁의 군수물자 보급인력으로 동원되었다. 또한 정신대 동원으로 인해 어린 여자아동들이 조혼(早婚)이라는 시대적 폭압을 당하기도 했다. 이어 닥친 6.25전쟁으로 인해 많은 아동들이 배움의 기회를 잃었고, 전후(戰後)의 열악한 생활환경과 학교 부족 현상은 아동들 삶의 질을 떨어뜨리는 주요 요인이 되었다. 이 시기의 절대빈곤 속에서, 먹고사는 일에 급급했던 부모세대는 아동을 가사노동의 대체인력으로 인식했다. 아동들은 자신들이 처한 상황에 대해 주체적으로 인식을 하거나 항변을 할 수 있는 존재가 아니었고, 부모나 기성세대의 의식에 의해 그 행위와 성격이 규정지어졌다. 또 다른 한 측면은 여자아동을 부수적 존재로 인식한 것인데, 이것은 이 시기만의 특징이 아니라 전통적으로 대물림된 사고이자 인식이다. 따라서 이러한 격동기 아동의 실제 삶과 아동에 대한 인식은 아동문학이 보편적으로 함의하고 있는 아동상이나 아동에 대한 인식과는 다소 거리감이 있다.

영문 초록

This article examines the actual life of child in the turbulent period and the perceptions on child of the his/her parents generation at that time recorded through the oral life history focusing on the elderly population of Busan area who had experienced Japanese colonial era, Korean War, and Korea s rapid industrialization. A Look at the child life and in the turbulent period recorded in the oral life history reveals clearly the real state of the elementary education field of Japanese colonial era. Students were suffering from the policy pf Japanese imperialists to obliterate the Korean language and were mobilized as military supplies for the Pacific War instead of studying. Also, the mobilization of Military Sexual Slavery caused the young girls to be oppressed by the early marriage. The subsequent Korean War has caused many children to lose their learning opportunities, and the poor living conditions and school shortages of postwar became a major factor in lowering the life quality of children. In the absolute poverty of this period, their parents generation, who had been busy in order to gain a livelihood, just recognized their children as substitutes to housework. children were not able to recognize or protest about their situation, and their actions and personality were defined by the perceptions of parents or older generations. And another aspect is about girl child who was treated as an incidental being, which is not only a feature of this period but a traditionally inherited thought and perceptions. Therefore, these actual life and perception of child in the turbulent period are somewhat different from the image and the perception of children and children commonly implied in children s literature.
