근대계몽기 가사(歌辭)와 개인의 발견

국문 초록

본 논문은 근대적 주요 특성의 하나인 개인의 발견, 개인주의의 형성, 개인화의 과정을 사회문화적 측면에서 규명하는 데 목적이 있다. 특히 직업화와 전문화의 출현은 근대의 주요한 흐름들이었다. 이에 따라 근대에 많은 종류의 직업적 지식 노동자가 등장했는데, 교사, 기자, 출판인, 지식 관리자 등을 들 수 있다. 지식의 전파가 일차적 관심사였던 직업인의 수는 계속해서 늘어났다. 이와 같은 현상의 확인을 위해 본 연구에서는 <대한매일신보>와 󰡔신문계󰡕 등 근대계몽기의 일부 신문과 잡지에 발표된 가사 작품을 대상으로 직업적 지식 노동자들에 의하여 전파된 정보와 지식의 일단을 살펴보는 시론(試論)적 접근을 시도하였다. 근대적 개인의 발견을 위한 분석의 큰 틀로는 우선 ‘인쇄 매체’, ‘정보’, ‘지식’을 들었다. 근대계몽기 가사는 근대에 새롭게 등장한 계몽 매체의 역할과 효용성에 대한 긍정적 평가를 주요 내용으로 하면서 비유된 개인을 등장시켜 근대적 개인의 역할과 사명에 대하여 강조하고 있다. 한편, 현실을 왜곡하는 ‘기자’ 등 근대의 직업적 지식 노동자를 등장시켜 그 부정적 개인에 대한 비판을 넘어 당시 인쇄 매체 전반에 만연한 부정적 측면까지 부각 시키고 있다. 근대계몽기 가사가 지닌 개인의 발견 과정은 또 다른 개인들에게 전파되는 사회 정보망을 형성함으로써 근대계몽기의 사회문화적 특성을 구축하는 데 일익을 담당했던 주요 창구의 하나로 기능했다. 근대 인쇄 매체는 논설 등을 통해 개인의 견해와 주장을 적극적으로 담아내는 한편, 전통 서정 갈래인 가사가 개인의 의견을 개진하는 역할의 일부를 충실히 수행했다는 데서 근대계몽기 가사의 의미를 확인할 수 있다. 근대계몽기 가사 작품들에 드러난 지식 축적의 다원적 경로는 전통과 근대 지식의 상호 영향에 기인한다고 할 수 있다. 한편으로는 가사 작품에 드러난 지식인 개인에 의한 다양한 화제를 통해 근대계몽기 지식의 분화 현상도 확인할 수 있다. 또한 가사 작품에서 교육과 유학의 문제를 본격적으로 다룸으로써 가사 갈래가 근대계몽기에 지식이 유입되고 축적되는 상황에도 관심을 기울였음을 확인할 수 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to identify the process of individual discovery, individualism, and personalization, which are one of the modern characteristics, from the socio-cultural perspective. Especially the emergence of profession and specialization was the main trends of the modern age. As a result, many kinds of occupational knowledge workers emerged in modern times. These were teachers, journalists, publishers and the spread of knowledge was a primary concern. In this study, we investigate the works and the articles published in some newspapers and magazines of the modern enlightenment period, such as the and 『Sinmungye』attempted access. The major framework of analysis was ‘print media’, ‘information’, and ‘knowledge’. The GASA of the modern Enlightenment period contain a positive evaluation of the role and utility of the newly emerging Enlightenment medium. It also emphasizes the roles and mission of modern individuals by introducing personalized individuals. On the other hand, modern knowledge workers such as ‘reporter’ distorting the reality have been introduced and the negative aspects of the print media as a whole have been highlighted beyond the criticism of the negative individual. The discovery process of the personal enlightenment period of the modern enlightenment period has become one of the main points that played a part in building the socio - cultural characteristics of the modern enlightenment period by forming social information network spread to other individuals. The modern print media positively reflected the views and arguments of individuals through editorials. The meaning of the words of the modern enlightenment period can be confirmed from the fact that the traditional GASA poetry performed faithfully a part of the role of expressing individual opinions. The various paths of accumulation of knowledge revealed in the works of modern Enlightenment period are caused by the mutual influence of traditional and modern knowledge. On the other hand, the phenomenon of differentiation of modern enlightenment knowledge can be confirmed through various topics by individual intellectuals revealed in the works. In addition, by addressing the problems of Confucianism and New Education in the GASA, it can be confirmed that the GASA has paid attention to the situation where knowledge is accumulated and accumulated in the modern enlightenment period.
