시각문화에서 젠더의식 학습을 위한 백워드 교육과정 개발과 적용

국문 초록

본고는 백워드 설계 모형에 따라 시각문화와 관련된 미술과 체험영역 단원을 개발하여 학습자의 젠더 의식을 살펴본 연구이다. 이 때 학습자의 젠더 의식을 버틀러의 젠더 수행성 이론에 기반하여 고찰하였다. 버틀러는 반복된 수행을 통한 복종과 동화의 정체성이 아닌 스스로 사고하고 판단한 ʻ주체적 젠더 의식ʼ에 대해 논하였다. 연구자는 주체적 젠더의식 함양을 위해 백워드 교육과정 모형을 활용 하여 수업을 설계하였다. 백워드 교육과정 설계모형은 학습자의 역량을 기르기에 적합한 교육과정 설계모형으로서 학습자의 의식화된 수행을 강조하기 때문이다. 설계된 교육과정에 따라 학생들은 젠더에 대해 살펴보고 그들이 생각하는 젠더를 반영한 이모티콘 캐릭터를 구성하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 우리 사회의 시각 문화에서 젠더를 고정되지 않은 수행으로 바라보고, 주체적인 젠더 의식 형성을 위한 수업 사례를 제공하는 데 그 의의가 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of visual culture instruction on learnerʼs subjective gender consciousness after developing and applying a unit of ʻexperienceʼ area of 2015 revised national art curriculum using the Backward design based on Judith Butlerʼs theory. The researchers encouraged the learners to have subjective gender consciousness and as a result, students constructed gender identity rather than stereotypes through repeated performance by Butlerʼs gender. Backward curriculum design model emphasizes the ʻperformanceʼ of the learner as a curriculum design model suitable for developing the learnerʼs competence. This can be related to Butlerʼs theory of gender performance that learnerʼs gender identity changes fluidly through ʻperformanceʼ. Therefore, this study is meaningful to interpret and analyze gender images in visual culture to reach the understanding of learnersʼ subjective gender consciousness through their performance. Based on the Backward curriculum, students analyzed gender and constructed an emoticon character reflecting their concept of gender. The participants could consider gender as an unfixed performance in visual culture and construct subjective gender identity.
