서원 기록자료 정리의 현황과 과제

국문 초록

본 논고는 세계문화유산 등재를 추진하고 있는 국가지정문화재 사적으로 지정된 9개 서원을 중심으로 기록자료의 전승상태와 정리현황 및 앞으로의 과제에 대해 간단히 정리한 것읻. 본고에서 기록자료의 대상은 서원운영과 관련하여 작성된 筆寫原本類와 古文書뿐만 아닐 서원이 소장하고 있는 서책과 冊版도 포함하여 검토하였다. 본고에서 대상으로 하는 紹修·?溪·玉山·陶山·屛山·道東·遯巖·武城·筆巖書院 등 9개 서원은 조선후기 각 지역의 首院으로써 가장 비중이 크고 영향력이 컸다는 점에서 볼 때 많은 서책과 책판 및 서원운영과 관련한 기록자료를 남겼다고 생각되지만, 현재 이 서원들이 소장하고 있는 기록자료는 서원별로 편차가 크다. 옥산·도산·병산서원을 제외한 대부분의 서원은 관리소홀로 자료의 망실과 산질이 심한 상태이다. 이들 소장 자료들은 서원측에서 서원지 형태로 정리되기도 하고, 최근에는 자료의 중요성을 감안해 정부, 지자체, 기관별로 조사가 이루어졌다 그러나 이들 조사는 자료의 목록과 일부 자료에 대한 사진 및 간단한 해제만이 제공되어서 연구자 내지 일반인들이 자료를 활용하는 데에는 한계가 있다. 한국 유교문화의 본산인 서원을 현대에 재조명하여 계승·활용하기 위해서는 흩어져 있는 서원자료의 포괄적 수집과 정리를 통한 <서원지(자료집)>의 편찬, 보급이 중요하다. 나아가 이러한 서원지를 바탕으로 제 분야의 연구를 통해 개발된 소스들은 최종적으로 <한국서원 아카이브>에 집결시켜 국내외에 한국 서원 문화의 보급과 홍보의 허브로 활용하여 연구, 교육, 관광 등에 활용될 수 있도록 해야한다. 아울러 서원이 가지는 정신사적, 문화적사적 위상을 조명하기 위해서는, 이들 자료를 중심으로 학제간 심층적인 연구가 필요하다.

영문 초록

This study examined tradition and summarization of the records at nine Seowon that were nominated to be state designated cultural properties and to promote registration of World Heritage, and summarized future subjects. The study investigated original copy, ancient documents of Seowon administration, and publications and/or Chaekpa that Seowon kept. The subjects were nine Seowon, for instance, Sosu, Namgye, Oksan, Dosan, Byeongsan, Dodong, Donam, Museong, and Pilam that had great influence upon community to give plenty of publications and/or Chaekpan and Seowon administration records: Those Seowon’s records varied very much depending upon each Seowon. Other Seowon than Oksan, Dosan and Byeongsan lost and destroyed material because of poor control. Those Seowon kept the materials in type of Seowonji, and the central government, local government and organizations recently investigated the materials considering values of the materials. However, researchers and/or citizens had difficulties at the use of the materials because of simple release of lists, photographs of a part of material. Seowon material should be comprehensively use of Seowon, headquarters of the Confucianism investigate, inherit and make use of Seowon, headquarters of the Confucianism culture in Korea, from point of view of modern ideology to edit and distribute ‘Seowonji (collection of material)’. The sources that were developed based on the Seowonji could be concentrated on ‘Korean Seowon Archive’ to distribute Korean Seowon culture and do public relations and to make use of it for research, education and tourism. In-depth research between school systems based on the material was needed to investigate values of spirit history as well as culture history of Seowon.
