잠언의 “가난과 부” 주제에 나타난 종말론적 지혜

국문 초록

잠언은 ‘여호와를 경외하는 것이 지식의 근본’(1:7)이 되는 세상, 바로 종말론적 기대가 현실이 되는 세상을 지혜의 목적이요 목표라고 가르치고 있다. ‘여호와를 경외하는 것이 지식의 근본’이라는 선포는 바로 하나님의 질서와 원칙이 현실이 되는 사회를 향한 갈망을 표현하는 것이다. 잠언은 한편으로 권력과 억압, 주인과 노예라는 차가운 정치적, 경제적, 계급적 ‘현실’을 묘사하고, 다른 한편으로 인과율이 적용되는 세상을 ‘이상’이라고 가르친다. 잠언의 가장 중요한 논제 중 하나인 ‘가난과 부’는 ‘청빈’한 그리스도인이나 ‘깨끗한 부자’ 그리스도인이 되라고 가르치는 것이 아니라, 인과율이 적용되는 ‘종말론적 희망’을 설파하고 있음을 밝혀보고자 한다. 본 논문이 중점적으로 다루고 있는 ‘가난과 부’라는 주제는 잠언에서 하나의 통일된, 일관성 있는 가르침으로 제시되지 않고 있다. 본 논문은 일견 모순된 것처럼 보이는 ‘가난과 부’에 대한 잠언들을 ‘잠언-반잠언-종말론적 잠언’이라는 구조로 설명한다. 이 구조를 통하여 잠언은 일상의 현실이 이상적 가치관과 모순되는 것에 좌절하고, 한탄할 것이 아니라, 하나님의 공의라는 종말론적 희망 안에서 구현되어야 함을 가르치고 있음을 제시하고자 한다.

영문 초록

Proverbs teaches about a world in which “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge”(1:7), the world in which eschatological expectations would be realized. The proclamation “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge” is an expression of a strong desire for a society where God’s order and principles would become a reality. The book of Proverbs teaches both political, economic and hierarchical “reality” and the “ideal” of the law of causality. The theme of “poverty and wealth,” one of the most important Proverbial teachings, is neither about “pure but poor” Christians nor “clean but rich” Christians. This paper rather presents that the theme of “poverty and wealth” teaches an “eschatological hope” by which the law of causality would become a reality. The theme of “poverty and wealth” is not a unified, consistent teaching just like any other proverbial teaching. This paper examines the theme of “poverty and wealth” with a structure of “Proverbs-Counter-Proverbs- Eschatological Proverbs.” With this structure, this paper argues that the book of Proverbs teaches that humans should not remain frustrated by the fact that the reality of our daily life is contradictory to the ideal. Rather, through the teaching of the theme of “poverty and wealth” it teaches that the eschatological hope of divine justice and righteousness should come to realization.
