<태평한화골계전>에 담은 일상에 대한 관심과 실천

국문 초록

이 글에서는 태평한화골계전을 읽는 세 가지 전제를 마련했다. 첫째, 태평한화 골계전을 허구로만 읽을 수 없다는 점. 둘째, 태평한화골계전은 여말선초 문명 전환의 분위기를 반영한 최초의 매체 역할을 했다는 점. 셋째, 태평한화골계전 수재 이야기 대부분은 낙관적 분위기로 점철된 일상을 재현하되, 부정적 인물도 제시함으로써 실천을 통한 교정을 요구한다는 점 등이 그러하다. 문명 전환의 기운이 팽배하던 여말선초. 당대 문인들은 저마다 문명 재건에 대한 자각의 기류가 강했다. 자각의 기류는 문인들로 하여금 자신이 발 딛고 사는 지금의 일상에 주목하게 했고, 일상에 대한 관심은 당대를 사는 그들만의 자부심을 보여주려는 글쓰기로 이어졌다. 태평한화골계전은 그런 현상을 담은 최초의 저작 이었다. 새로운 미디어의 출현이라 할 만하다. 태평한화골계전에서는 책 안에서 교훈성을 강조한다. 장황한 변명은 미디어가 처음 출현할 때 위해론이 제기되고,그에 따라 ‘그럼에도 교육적 효과가 있다.’는 식의 대응논리가 마련되는 양상과 다름없다. 최초의 매체 태평한화골계전의 출현은 이후 여러 텍스트 산출에 영향을 미친다. 촌담해이나 어면순등은 그 결과라 할 만하다. 그러나 이후 텍스트는 일상에 대한 관심보다 이야기가 지닌 오락성을 위주로 했다. 문명 전환의 분위기가 얼마간 가라앉으면서 나타난 변화의 결과였다. 태평한화골계전에 수록된 일화 대부분은 편자가 살던 시대를 배경으로 제시했 다. 서거정이 당대 일상을 보여주기 위해 태평한화골계전을 저술했음을 확인케 한다. 실린 이야기도 실재했던 일이다. 허구로 보이는 일들도 사실에 기초했다. 게다가 오락성까지 확보했다. 이로써 보면 태평한화골계전은 역사 서술에서 일탈한 문학적 글쓰기이자, 문학적 글쓰기에서 일탈한 역사 서술이라 할 만하다. 태평 한화골계전에는 부정적 인물을 소재한 일화가 많지 않다. 풍자로 볼 만한 작품은 더욱 적다. 풍자를 드러냈다고 볼 만한 작품 역시 등장인물을 비판하기 위한 것이 아니다. 사회 비판은 더 더욱 아니다. 단지 부정적 인물을 반면교사로 삼아 자신을 수양하려는 전제로만 작동할 뿐이다. 수양을 통해 현실을 개조함으로써 새로운 문명을 대응하려는 낙관론적 세계관이 반영된 결과였다.

영문 초록

This study focuses on three factors. First, Taepyeonghanwhagolgyejeon can be understood as the emergence of new media. Second,  Taepyeonghanwhagolgyejeonis a historical writing and also literary writing. Third, Taepyeonghanwhagolgyejeondepicts everyday life just as it is and induces the practice of civilization. In late Goryeo and early Chosun when there was full of vigor for the transition of civilization, each of the literary persons revealed their own strong consciousness about restoring civilization. In fact, there was an atmosphere that they intended to show their own pride about the age they were living by describing everyday life in that period that they were leading their lives.  Taepyeonghanwhagolgyejeonwas the first work that dealt with such phenomena. In this sense, Taepyeonghanwhagolgyejeoncan be understood as the emergence of new media. Taepyeonghanwhagolgyejeondoes wordily mention that it contains didactic contents. This is not that different from the fact that when new media appear, people insist they would be harmful, and accordingly, logic to cope with it is established, for instance, saying ‘they may be effective in terms of education.’  Taepyeonghanwhagolgyejeonis about the people who lived in the same age when the writer lived. This allows us to know that the author wrote  Taepyeonghanwhagolgyejeonto talk about everyday life in that period. The episodes contained in it are all real. The writer obtains entertaining effects while delivering facts. In this perspective, we can say that  Taepyeonghanwhagolgyejeonis a literary writing deviating from historical statements and also historical statements deviating from a literary writing. There are not many negative persons in Taepyeonghanwhagolgyejeon. There are very few works dealing with satire. The works revealing satire are not intended to criticize either the characters or society, either. Negative persons are adopted to cultivate himself taking them as an example he can profit by. This is the result of reflecting an optimistic view of the world to change the reality through cultivation and create new civilization.
