국문 초록

어린이 철학(Philosophy for/with Children, 이하 P4wC)은 혁신적인 초･중등 교수학습법으로 오랫동안 인구에 회자하여 왔다. 그럼에도 불구하고 현재 우리의 교육 현장 및 이론 영역으로부터 보편적인 관심을 끌어내는 데 성공하지는 못한 것으로 보인다. 왜일까? 연구자들은 우리나라 교육의 장에서 어린이 철학이 단순히 수업 기술로 인식되고 있다는 사실이 그 중요한 원인이라고 진단했고, 어린이 철학의 본령적 특성에 심미성(審美性)이 내재하여 있다고 판단하여 어린이 철학 프로그램의 설계자인 매튜 립맨(Matthew Lipman)과 그의 학술적 레퍼런스인존 듀이(John Dewey)의 교육론을 분석하여 이를 규명해 보았다. 지금까지 어린이 철학운동 진영에서는 ‘사고 기능의 발달’을 목표로 명시해 왔기에 그 교육적 가능성이 인식되는 폭은 넓지않았다. 그러나 운동 전반의 흐름에 병존하는 ‘미적 경험(aesthetic exprience)’은 교육이라는 인간 활동의 본질적 특성을 함의한 개념이기에 이를 핵심 가치로 부각하는 것이 적절하다고 생각하며, 이렇게 될 때 어린이 철학의 진면목이 제대로 평가될 수 있을 것이라고 기대된다. 연구자들은 이 사실을 존 듀이의 ‘질성적 사고(qualitative thought)에 기반한 경험’ 개념으로 포착하고자 했으며, 이 글은 위 가정을 해명하는 절차로 전개되었다.

영문 초록

For a long time, Many educational practitioners and researchers have been interested in Philosophy for/with Children(P4wC) movement as a useful teaching process. In spite of that, P4wC doesn t seem to success of being selected as a good one from schools and educational scholars. Researchers indicate that because P4wC has become accepted just as a kind of teaching craft in our educational field, and we assume that there has another characteristic such as an Aesthetic impression in the practice and theory of P4wC. So we analyze the John Dewey and Matthew Lipman s Educational theory in order to confirm that. Until now. The Reader group of ICPIC have been saying that The main goal of the P4wC is Improvement of (Critical) Thinking , so, unfortunately, it s educational value has been underestimated. but we now focus on the concept of the Aesthetic experience which has existed together with the goal of the P4wC stated, and It is important and worthy of investigation because it contains the fundamental value of the educational phenomenon. Then the real educational value of P4wC would be reevaluated. In order to try to grasp the meaning of that, researchers analyzed the concept of Experience of Qualitative Thought and interpret in the context of the theory of the two educational scholars.
