국문 초록

이주홍의 ｢즐거운 박(朴)첨지｣는 일제 말기 친일잡지인 󰡔家庭の友󰡕 1940년 11월부터 1941년 3월까지 그리고 󰡔家庭の友󰡕의 후신인 󰡔半島の 光󰡕1941년 4월부터 1941년 8월까지 10회 연재된 만화로, 각 편이 15칸 으로 짜여져 있다. 이 중에서 1941년 3월호는 영인 상태가 좋지 않아 제외하였다. 이 만화는 일제 말기 신체제하의 ‘국민총력운동’의 시대적 배경 속에서 이루어진 것이고, 그 내용도 이를 구체적으로 실천하는 모습을 보이고 있다. 이 만화의 주인공은 박첨지이며, 그와 다소 대립되는 인물로 허별감이 있다. 그런데 박첨지는 초기의 만화에는 조선금융조합의 조합원으로, 이후에는 모범부락의 애국반장으로 신분이 변모한다. 조선금융조합은 일제의 정치선전기관으로서 한국인의 친일화를 목적으로 설립되었는데, 주인공을 이런 조합원으로 설정한 것 자체가 조선금융조합연합회에서 펴낸 󰡔家庭の友󰡕라는 잡지의 성격에 부합되는 인물을 내세워 대일협력을 의도한 것으로 여겨진다. 그리고 당시 애국반의 반장은 애국반원들의 일상생활 전반을 지배하고 감시하는 기능을 하였고 나아가 일제 말기에 이르러서는 당시의 모든 공출과 배급의 기본 조직으로까지 기능을 한일종의 말단 권력기관이었다. 그러나 만화 ｢즐거운 박(朴)첨지｣에서 주인공 박첨지는 애국반장으로서 크게 권력을 행사하는 것은 아니다. 오히려 박첨지가 모범부락 애국반장으로서 솔선수범하여 애국반원인 마을 사람들을 독려하여 일제가 주력하는 ‘국민총력운동’의 실천에 앞장서는 일이다. 그는 다소 그와 대립하면서 이기적이고 게으르며 뻔질거리는 성격의 허별감을 끊임없이 감싸고 설득하여 공동체의 일원으로 끌어들인 다. 전체적으로 박첨지와 허별감의 대립되는 캐릭터가 작품에 웃음과 해학을 부여하면서 이야기를 맛깔나게 끌고 나간다. 그는 애국반원들과 농촌의 일상의 삶 속에서 더불어 부데끼며 살아가는, 제목과 같이 ‘즐거운’ 모습을 보이고 있다. 다시 말하면 이 만화는 적극적인 대일협력의 내용을 담고 있으나, 이를 웃음과 해학을 통해 드러내고 있는 것이다. 요약하면, ｢즐거운 박(朴)첨지｣는 일제 말기 국민총력운동 시기인 1940년 11월부터 1941년 8월까지 식민지 농촌의 한 모범부락을 배경으로 하여, 부락일에 솔선수범하며 애국반원들을 이끌어가는 성실한 조선 금융조합의 모범조합원이자 애국반의 반장인 박첨지와, 그와 대비되는 게으르고 이기적인 인물인 허별감을 등장시켜, 농촌의 일상 속에서 보여 주는 황국신민으로서 활동을 웃음과 해학을 통해 보여주고 있다. 즉 신체제하의 국민총력운동의 실천이라는 내용을 제국주의 일본의 시선으로 선전하고 있는 비뚤어진 해학정신을 보여주는 만화이다.

영문 초록

Lee, Juhong s ｢The Pleasant Sir Park｣ is a serial comics with a 15-cut strip issued 10 times in the Japan-friendly magazine 󰡔The Friend of the Home(家庭の友)󰡕from November, 1940 to March, 1941 and its successor 󰡔The Light of the Peninsular(半島の光)󰡕from April to August, 1941. Out of these, the strip issued on March, 1941 is excluded due to its facsimile condition. Its background is set the period of ‘National cooperation Movement’ and its contents are how the movement was carried out in detail. The protagonist of the comics is Sir Park and its antagonist Edler Hoe. Sir Park is described as a member of the Chosun Financial Society Association in the early part of the issues and then turned to be the head of the patriot team. The Chosun Financial Society Association was founded as a propaganda organization to make Korean people Japan-friendly and depicting the protagonist as a member of it itself meets the identity of the magazine 󰡔The Friend of the Home(家庭の友)󰡕which was published by the Chosun Financial Society Association with the purpose of cooperating with the Japanese government. In addition, the head of the patriot team controlled and monitored the members routine of the team, and in the late stage of the Japanese colonial period the team acted as a terminal authority functioned as the basic organization from all the allocated toll and distribution at that time. However, the protagonist of ｢The Pleasant Sir Park｣ doesn t act his authority as a head of the patriot team. Rather, he voluntarily cheers the town people and leads the national cooperation movement which Japan focused on. He tried to keep persuading Edler Hoe who is selfish, idle and lazy and opposing him and make him a member of the group. The conflict of the two characters makes the story much more humorous and witty. He is depicted ‘pleasant’ as the title living the routine in the rural area with his team members. In other words, this comics contains active cooperation with Japanese government in the means of humor and wit. To sum, ｢The Pleasant Sir Park｣ depicts the performances as the people of the emperor in the daily routine in the background of a sample village in the rural area with the two confronting main characters of Sir Park and Edler Heo from November, 1940 to August, 1941. The two characters delivers the performances as the people of the emperor with humor and wit. In short, it shows that the comics acts as a propaganda of the Japanese imperialism for the implementation of the national cooperation movement under the new system with the distorted spirit of humor.
