백석의 초기 소설에 나타난 백석 문학의 원형적 특성 연구

국문 초록

백석의 문학 활동 전반에 대한 연구는 백석 연구의 르네상스라고 지칭해도 과장된 것이 아니다. 그러나 백석 문학의 초기작에 해당하는 소설에 관한 연구는 현저히 부족하다. 이는 초기 소설들이 나타내는 미적 특성이 당대 소설이 거둔 성취에 비해 소박하기 때문일 것이다. 그러나 작품의 연구는 미적 자질뿐 아니라 작가론의 관점에서도 이루어질 수있으며, 백석의 소설들은 이후 백석 문학 전반에서 나타나는 원형적인 특성들을 지니고 있다. 이에 이 연구는 백석의 초기 소설에 해당하는 <그 母와 아들>, <마을의 유화>, <닭을 채인 이야기>를 대상으로 작품의 특성을 규명하고, 이 작품들의 특성이 이후 백석의 문학 세계와 어떻게 연결되고 있는지 살펴보았다. 백석의 소설들은 민중적 삶에서 미적 대상을 선택하고, 이들 대상에 대해 공감에 바탕을 둔 애정을 나타낸다. 또한 외래적인 이데올로기에 휩쓸리지 않고 인간 본연의 삶의 모습들을 간직하고자 한다. 토속어를 풍부하게 활용함으로써 민중적 삶의 현실성을 강화하고, ‘엮음’이란 독특한 서술방법을 통해 판소리를 비롯한 다양한 문학적 표현의 전통을 소설 속에 구현해 내고 있기도 하다. 그리고 의인화된 인물들을 설정하여 작품의 흥미를 배가한다. 이와 같은 백석 소설의 특성들은 이후의 문학 활동, 즉 초기 시와 후기 시, 북한에서의 아동문학과 시작(詩作) 활동 등과 연결되면서 다시 활성화된다. 이에 본고는 백석의 문학 활동 시기를 다섯 시기로 나누고그 가운데 삼수로 현지 파견을 나가기 이전까지의 문학적 특성들이 초기 소설작품들 속에 이미 내재되어 있음을 밝혀보이고자 한다. 그 결과 백석의 문학 활동은 삼수 파견 이전, 아동문학에 집중하던 시기까지를 통일적인 양상으로 파악할 수 있으며 그 이후 외적 환경으로 말미암아 명확한 단층이 생긴 것으로 평가할 수 있다.

영문 초록

The study of the overall literary activity of Baek-seok is not exaggerated in its reference to the Renaissance of Baek-seok research. However, research into Baek-seok s short stories, which is one of the earliest activities, is remarkably insufficient. These short stories are due to the simplicity customary among the author s early short stories. However, the study of works can be accessed not only from the point of view of aesthetic qualities but also from the perspective of artists, and Baek-Seok s short stories are an important starting point for Baek-seok literature. The study explored the characteristics of the works in three books. Baek-seok s short story, “The Mother and the son”, “Story from the village” and “The story of chicken stealer” and how the characteristics of the works are linked to those of Baekseok. Baek-seok s short stories highlight the love they have based on sympathy after choosing an aesthetic object from popular life. They also want to preserve their original human lives without being drawn into orthodoxy ideologies. Using the mother-tongue abundantly, it strengthens the reality of popular life, expresses the tradition of pansori and other literary expressions through a unique way of writing. They also doubled the interest in the work by setting up person who is personified. These characteristics of the Baek-seok short stories are reinvigorated, linking wholly or partially to subsequent literary activities, such as poetry and poetry, and children s literature in North Korea. This study thus revealed that out of the literary activities of Baek-seok, divided into five periods, literary traits were already inherent in early novels before being dispatched to the region. As a conclusion, Baek-seok s literary activities should be identified in a unified way until the 4th period except the poets for children literature in Sam-su after 1959.
