국문 초록

이 논문은 한국 전쟁을 서사화하는 박완서 소설『목마른 계절』,『그 많던 싱아는 누가 다 먹었을까』, 『그 산이 정말 거기 있었을까』에 나타난 신원증명장치(증 명서)를 주권의 문제를 중심으로 논의한다. 주지하다시피, 근대국가의 신원증명장 치는 이념이나 정체성이 아니라, 서류에 기재된 신분으로 국민임을 확인하게 한다. 특히 이 연구에서는 계엄령 상태의 부역자 처벌과 시민증 발급에 주목한다. 이시기와 관련하여 박완서 소설은, 국가 주권의 구조가 법질서와 영토질서의 확정에 그치지 않고, 예외를 구성함으로써 형성된다는 사실을 폭로한다. 소설에서 인물들은 ‘시민증’이라는 이름의 허술한 종이쪽지가 곧 생명을 좌우하게 된 현실과 마주 한다. 이와 같이 볼 때, 소설 속 피난의 서사는 증명서(시민증, 도민증)와 증명서 (신임장, 피난민증)의 대립구도로 치환된다. 폭력적인 경계를 넘나들며 살아남기 위한 인물들의 신원 연출 전략은, 이후 패스포트 등 국가 간 경계 넘기의 문제로 확장될 것이다. 세 편의 소설에서 은연중 표방되는 이념적 선택 혹은 체제 선택의 진술은, 이글의 맥락에서 보면 부차적이다. 소설의 인물들에게 국가 주권은, 일반의지에 의한 자발적 복종(사회계약)으로써가 아니라, 죽음의 공포와 함께 도래한다. 생존은 소속-배제의 구조로, 국가/국민 형성의 장치들을 통해 결정된다. 박완서 소설은 한국 사회의 기술적 시민권의 시발점에 다름 아닌 목숨이 있다는 사실을 드러낸다. 그리고 그것은 삶의 주인으로 스스로를 정립하고자 하는, 박완서 소설의 양가적 열망의 한 기원이기도 하다.

영문 초록

This paper focuses on the issue of sovereignty(sovereign power) on the apparatus identification (certificates) presented in Park Wan-Seo’s novels(Thirsty Season, Who Ate Up All the Shinga?, Was The Mountain There Really?) As is generally known, Modern national identification devices make it clear that the people are the identities listed in the document. This study particularly focuses on the punishment of collaborators and the issue of citizen cards. Park’s novels reveal the fact that the structure of state sovereignty is not limited to the legal order and the determination of territorial order, but is constituted by forming an exception. In Park Wan-Seo’s novels the figures are faced with the reality in which their life and death will be decided by the mere piece of paper called ‘citizen card’. From this viewpoint, the narrative of refuge is replaced by the opposition between certificate (citizen card, province resident card) and certificate (credentials, refugee card). This strategy of these figures aiming for the survival crossing the violent frontiers will extend into the problem of passing the international borders. The statements regarding the choices of ideologies and political regimes are secondary. The state sovereignty arrives to the figures of the novels, not under the form of the voluntary submission to the general will, but under the shadow of the fearful death. Structured by the code of inclusion/exclusion, survival hinges on the apparatus of nation building. Park’s novels demonstrate the fact that at the root of the citizenship of Korean society is the ‘bare life’. And it is at the same time the origin of the ambivalent aspirations of her novels to be established as a sovereign.
