국문 초록

이 글은 현재까지 일본에서 혹은 일본어로 발표・간행된 박태원 작품의 번역과 박태원 연구를 개괄적으로 정리하는 것을 목표로 한다. 박태원 작품의 일본어 번역은 식민지 시기부터 존재해 왔는데, 이것은 식민지 말기 조선에서 진행된 일본 제국의 문화통합이라는 상황과 맞물린 사건이었다. 그 당시 조선문단에서 박태원의 위상은 높았던 것이 짐작되는 한편, 일본 ‘내지’에서 박태원은 그다지 주목을 받지 않았던 것으로 보인다. 그후 1960년대에 활동을 시작한 연구 단체 ‘조선문학의 회’의 한국문학 연구와 번역 작업을 비롯, 2000년대까지 박태원의 대표작인 ≷천변 풍경≸과 ｢소설가 구보씨의 일일｣이 번역되는 등 일본어로 박태원을 읽을 수 있는 환경은 정비돼 가고 있다. 일본에서 박태원 연구의 효시는 조 쇼키치(長璋吉)이다. 조 쇼키치는 1987년이 라는 이른 시기에 박태원 소설의 특질을 날카롭게 지적하여 그 특유의 안목을 보여주었다. 한국 국외에서 한국학이 학문 분야로 확립됨에 따라 박태원을 주제로한 일본어 논문도 나타나기 시작했다. 이러한 논문들은 각기 의의를 가지고 있는 한편 질적으로도 양적으로도 특필할 만한 성과를 낳았다고는 보기 어렵다. 박태원 자신과 역사적으로 특별한 인연을 가진 일본어를 연구 수행 언어로 개재시킴으로써 새로운 관점에서 박태원 문학이 조명되기를 기대한다.

영문 초록

This article describes a brief history of translation and research activities of Park Tae-won’s literature in Japanese. Even though Japanese translation of Park Tae-won’s works dates back to the colonial period, this was a part of assimilative integration of Korean culture into the Japanese empire. At that time we can see that Park Tae-won was already regarded as eminent figure among Korean writers while he was not likely to attract Japanese readers so much. After the collapse of the Japanese empire, several pioneering researchers established Chōsenbungaku no Kai (Study Group of Korean Literature) in 1960s and introduced important Korean writers and literary works including Park Tae-won in Japanese. Such efforts led to significant translations of Ch’ŏnbyŏn P’unggyŏng and Sosŏlga Gubo ssi ŭi Iril. As early as 1987, Chō Shōkichi’s essay showed striking perspective on Park Tae-won’s novels. After that, as Korean studies globally spreaded out, academic articles and dissertations concerning Park Tae-won and his literature also begun to come out. Although these researches made respective contribution to Park Tae-won studies, it is hard to say that they have prominent uniqueness compared to the researches in the Korean academy, which has made much richer achievement in quantity and quality regarding Park Tae-won’s literature. I expect that fruitful discoveries will be achieved through the Japanese language, the language of the former empire which Park Tae-won himself used to command and confront.
