사랑이라는 이름의 이념과 혁명 -백신애 글쓰기와 삶에 대한 주석달기

국문 초록

문학사에서 백신애는 여러 소문과 추측에 둘러 싸여 적절한 평가를 받지 못한 작가이다. 백신애의 삶에서 매우 결정적 사건이 될 수 있는 러시아 유랑이나 동경 체류 등에 대한 명확한 주석달기가 없기 때문이다. 이 글은 백신애의 삶에서 중요한 사건들이 작가의 글쓰기 혹은 작가를 모델로 한 글쓰기에 어떻게 텍스트화되고 있는지를 밝힘으로써 불완전하나마 백신애의 삶과 문학에 대한 주석 붙이기를 시도하고자 한다. 백신애의 러시아 유랑은 두 편의 『꺼래이』와 『나의 시베리아 유랑기』에 텍스트화되고 있고 백신애를 모델로 한 일본 작가 이시카와 아스조의 『봉청화』에도 부분적으로 묘사되고 있다. 이들 텍스트들을 비교해 보면 조선어로 쓴 소설 『꺼래이』가 주요인물의 체험과 그 직접적인 심경 토로가 주를 이룬 반면, 일본 어로 쓴 『나의 시베리아 유랑기』는 독자를 의식한 거리두기를 통한, 연기적 진술 주체의 표출이 특징적이다. 백신애 삶과 문학에서, 연기하는 진술주체는 진술 주체의 신뢰를 스스로 깎아 내리는 전략으로 실제 배우로서 활약했던 백신애의 생애적 사실과도 관련 있다. 이러한 전략은 진실을 말하기 어려운 상황 즉 가부장제, 제국 주의 등 폭력적인 상황에서 스스로를 방어하기 위한 것이지만 백신애에게 가부장의 권력과 제국의 권력은 저항과 선망이라는 양가적 측면이 있었다. 말년의 백신 애는『혼명에서』와 『아름다운 노을』을 통해 연기하는 진술 주체의 전략 대신 젊은 시절, 꿈꾸었던 이상과 이념 지향으로 회귀하는 징후를 보인다. 이들 말년작 소설 에서 사회주의 이념은 계급투쟁이라는 전통 사회주의적 문제제기가 아니라 새로운 형태의 ‘사랑’을 꿈꾸는 방식으로 형상화된다. 따라서 백신애의 삶과 문학의 주석 달기에서 민족, 계급, 젠더는 매우 중요한 키워드로 제시될 수 있다

영문 초록

In the history of literature, Baek Shinae is a writer who was surrounded by rumors and speculation. For this reason she has not been evaluated properly. It was caused partially by the fact that there was no commentary by the writer on the travel in Russia or staying in Tokyo, which could be a decisive event in Baek Shinae’s life. This article attempts to add another incomplete note to Baek Shinae’s life and literature by comparing her writings and revealing her writing strategy. The Baek Shinae’s travel in Russia was texted in different versions as Kkeoraei(『꺼래이』), My Record on Wanderings in Siberia(『나의 시베리아 방랑기』)written by Baek Shinae and also texted in Bongcheonghwa(鳳靑華), a Japanese writer Isikawa Asjo(石川達三)’s novel modeled on Baek Shinae. If these texts are compared, Kkeoraei written in Korean could be characterized with expressing directly main character’s emotion and idea, whereas in the other texts such as My Record on Wanderings in Siberia and Bongcheonghwa, main character hides genuine self behind acting of statement-subject. Baek Shinae’s acting statement-subject, a strategy to undermine the credibility of the main character or I-narrator by herself, is also associated with Baek Shin-ae’s career as a actress. This strategy is aimed at defending oneself in a situation that is difficult to tell the truth under the patriarchy, imperialism and other violent situations. Later in her life, Baek Shinae abandons her strategy to show herself as a incredible statement-subject especially, in In the Chaos(『혼명에서』) and Beautiful Sunset(『아름다운 노을』). In these texts, she struggled to return to the period of the revolution and socialism she dreamed of during her younger days. However, socialism and revolution are not described as a matter of class struggle, but as a matter of dreaming a new type of “love” in her texts.
