‘頭流壇’을 통해 본 金平默의 智島 유배생활 : 그 소통과 영향

국문 초록

유배인에 대한 문제는 섬 문화가 지닌 고유의 인문환경 중 하나이다. 특히 문화적으로 단절된 공간이라는 고정된 시각에서 벗어나 ‘소통의 공간’ 이라는 측면에서 섬 문화의 특징을 재조명하는 데 매우 유용하다. 본고는 조선후기에 현 신안군 智島에서 유배생활을 한 金平默(1819~1891)의 사례를 연구대상으로 삼았다. 지도사람들은 김평묵이 流配오자 제자가 되기를 자청하였고, 死後에는 享祀를 위한 ‘頭流壇’ 을 조성하여 지금까지도 지속하고 있다. 본 연구자는 智島지역의 이러한 특징을 ‘유배인이 섬마을에 남긴 영향’ 이라고 보는 단편적인 시각에서 벗어나 ‘智島사람들과 유배인 상호간의 소통의 결과물’ 이라는 점에 주목하였다. 연구목적을 달성하기 위해 ‘지도의 인문적 공간적 특징’ , ‘지도 유배생활의 양상’, ‘소통과 영향 관계’등을 구체적으로 분석하였다. 이러한 분석을 통해 김평묵이 智島사람들에게 의해 숭상되고 그 學風이 지속될 수 있었던 원인이 지도가 지닌 인문환경의 특징에 있다는 결론을 도출하였다. 智島사람들은 유배인 김평묵을 매개체로 하여 외부 세계와의 소통의 폭을 확대해 나갔으며, 學脈 획득 및 지적전통의 자부심 고취 등에 활용하였다.

영문 초록

An exile is one of distinct humanistic environment which island culture has. Especially, it is highly useful to shed a new light on characteristics of island culture in terms of ‘a communication space’, free from a stereotype of an island with culturally isolated space. In this study, Kim Pyeongmook (1819~1891), who was exiled in Jido island, Sinan-gun in the late Joseon Dynasty was studied. Once Kim Pyeongmook was exiled to Jido island, residents there volunteered to become his students. After he died, his students established ‘Duryudan’ to hold his memorial service, and it has been continued since then. A researcher of this study saw this characteristic of Jido island as ‘a result of communication between residents and exiles in Jido island’，free from a narrow viewpoint of seeing it as an influence of exiles in an island’. To achieve the purposes of this study, ‘humanistic and spatial characteristics of Jido island’，‘aspect of exile life in Jido island’，and ‘relation between communication and its influence’ are analyzed in detail. From the analysis, it was found that the reason why Kim Pyeongmook was respected by residents in Jido island, and his academic tradition has been continued was driven from characteristics of humanistic environment that Jido island has. With Kim Pyeongmook, who was an exile as a medium, people in Jido island expanded communication with the outside world, established academic ties and inspired their pride in intellectual tradition.
