선교사들의 한국어 학습 전략 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 선교사들의 한국어 학습 전략을 고찰한 것이다. 선교사들의 한국어 학습전략에 관한 심층적인 접근을 시도하고자, 질적 연구로서 개방적 면담을 실시하였다. 또 선교사들의 학습 전략을 통시적으로 고찰하기 위하여, 과거 한국어 교재에 나타난 한국어 학습 전략들을 살펴보았다. 19세기부터 한국에 입국한 선교사들은 그들이 집필한 교재에 구체적인 한국어 학습방법, 학습 유의점 등을 다루고 있었다. 현대 선교사들을 심층 면담한 결과, 한국어의 어순과 문장 구조를 공통적으로 어려워하였고, 문장 작성 연습을 많이 하고 있었다. 선교사로서의 임무인 강론을 준비하고 신자들과 면담하는 과정을 적극적인 한국어 학습 방법으로 활용하고 있었다. 특히 선교사들은 정의적 학습 전략에서 두드러진 강점을 보였는데, 자신의 한국어 학습 목적과 동기를 상기하면서 스스로 한국어 학습의 동기를 부여함으로써 보다 성공적인 한국어 학습을 유도하였다. 한편, 선행 외국어 학습 경험, 한국 생활 경험, 학습 환경에 대한 인식, 문화적 상대성에 대한 개인적 신념에 따라 한국어 학습 전략에 차이가 나타났다. 본 연구를 통해서, 특수 목적 한국어 학습자인 선교사들의 한국어 학습 전략의 선택요인과 전개 양상을 살펴볼 수 있었으며, 학습자의 능동성이 배가되는 상황과 전략을 구체적으로 밝혀 기술하였다는 의의를 가진다.

영문 초록

This study is about learning strategy of Korean by missionaries. This study implemented open interview as qualitative study to attempt diversified and in-depth approach regarding Korean learning strategy of missionaries. Also, to investigate diachronically learning strategy of missionaries who came to Korea, the writer studied Korean learning strategy shown in past Korean teaching materials. As a result of in-depth interview of missionaries, they did a lot of exercises for making sentence. They positively made use of preparing sermon, their duty as missionary and talking with their congregation by training, exercise, and learning Korean. Particularly missionaries showed outstanding strength in their defined strategy. They induced more successful Korean learning by self-giving motive recollecting the purpose and motive of Korean learning. Depending upon individual preceding foreign language learning experience and Korean living experience, their learning strategy showed difference, and depending upon recognition about learning environment and individual credo about cultural relativity, their strategy showed difference. Through this study, the writer could look into selection and expanding feature of Korean learning by missionaries who were Korean learners for special purpose, and has the meaning of concretely clarifying and describing the situation and strategy where active attitude of learner is doubled.
