극작가 박재성의 전기적 정보와 오독의 문제

국문 초록

본고는 구술이나 회고를 중심으로 이루어지고 있는 극작가 박재성의 생애와 연극 활동에 관한 전기적 정보를 살펴보았다. 이에 본고는 그의 전기적 정보, 특히 연극 활동에 관한 정보의 문제점을 살펴본 바를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 그의 생몰 연도는 통영중학교 국어교사 시절 제자들의 회고담에 근거하여 1915년과 1947년으로 본다. 둘째, 일본대학과 법정대학의 동문 명단에서 확인되고 있지는 않지만 회고담의 구술자와의 관계에서 본다면 그가 일본대학교 예술과로 유학했다는 것이 더 신뢰성이 있다. 아울러 그가 동경 축지소극장에서 신극을 배우거나 연구하고 귀국했다는 것은 사실의 왜곡이다. 셋째, 그의 희곡작품이나 공연작품으로 거론되고 있는 것은 총 11편이다. 그 가운데 희곡텍스트와 대본텍스트로는 확인이 되지는 않지만 구술이나 회고담으로 전해지는 공연텍스트는 5편이며, 문헌기록으로 확인이 가능한 것은 4편이다. 넷째, 일본어로 창작한 희곡작품 ≪晩秋≫는 동경제국대학교 동문들 이 중심이 된 문학잡지 赤門文學 (1942년 5, 6월)에 발표된다. 다섯째, 1946년 통영여중 학예회에서 공연된 기록이 있는 작품, 곧 희곡텍스트 ≪봄의 향연≫과 대본텍스트 ≪불어라 봄바람≫은 동일 작품으로 추론된다. 여섯째, 그의 작품 ≪애정무한≫(4막)은 유치진 연출과 김일영 장치로 극단 현대극장에서 약초국민극장에 1945년 6월 6일 야간에, ≪산비둘기≫는 유치진 연출로 극단 현대극장에서 약초국민극장에 1945년 8월 13일에서 15일까지 공연된다. 아울러 ≪산비둘기≫의 내용을 확인할 수 없음에도, 그 작품으로 인하여 그가 ‘일본 총독부의 검열과 경찰의 소환을 피신했다는 것은 추측에 의한 왜곡에 지나지 않는다. 그 작품은 당시 연극학적 상황에서 본다면 적어도 ‘검열’을 통과한 것임에는 재론의 여지가 없다. 일곱째, 통영문화협회, 문인극회의 회원들과의 관계에서 본다면 그는 적어도 동경학생예술좌의 김용오, 허남실을 매개로 하여 유치진과의 연극적 접촉이 이루어진 것으로 보인다. 끝으로 이러한 몇 가지 사실의 추론과 확인에도 불구하고 그의 전기적 정보와 연극 활동에 관한 문헌 자료 발굴이 이루어져야 한다. 확인 가능한 문헌 자료, 특히 이미 발굴된 자료 ≪불어라 봄바람≫는 학계에 공개되어야 한다.

영문 초록

This paper examines the biographic information about the life and theater activities of the playwright Park Jae Sung, which is centered on dictation and retrospectives. Therefore, this paper summarizes the problems of his biographic information, especially about theater activities, and concludes. 1) His longevity is seen in 1915 and 1947 based on the remembrance of his disciples when he was a Korean language teacher at Tongyeong Middle School.   2) Although it is not confirmed on the list of alumni of Japanese universities and legal colleges, it is more reliable that he studied in the art department of Nihon University, in relation to the narrator of the recollections. In addition, it is a factual distortion that he learned or studied the new drama in the Tsukijishogekijo(築地小劇場). 3) There are eleven pieces of his plays and performances. Among them, the play text and script text are not confirmed, but there are five performance texts delivered in oral and recollections. 4) The drama “ManChu”(晩秋) created in Japanese is published in the literary magazine “Akamon Literature” (May, June, 1942), centered on the alumni of Tokyo Imperial University 5) In 1946, a work with a record in Tongyeong Girls Middle School, the drama text “Bom-ui Hyang Yeon”(Spring Feast) and the script text “Bul Eola Bom Balam”(“Blowing in the springtime”) is deduced as the same work. 6) His work “Ae Jeong Mu Han”(愛情無限) (Act 4) was directed by Yoo Chi Jin and Kim Il Young at the Yag Cho Gug Min Geug Jang the theater of Hyeon Dae Geug Jang on June 6, 1945, It will be performed from August 13 to 15. Moreover, even though he can not confirm the contents of “San Bi Dul Gi”, it is merely a distortion by speculation that he escaped the censorship of the Japanese government general and the recall of the police. It can not be reckoned that the work has passed at least ‘censorship’ if it is seen from the theatrical phenomenon at that time. 7) In terms of relations with the members of the Tongyeong Cultural Association and Mun In Geug Hoe, he seems to have made a theatrical contact with Yoo Chi Jin through at least the Tokyo Ghag Saeng Ye Sul Jwa s Kim Yong Oh and Huh Nam Sil. Despite some inferences and confirmations of these facts, the remaining issues should be found in the literature on his graphic information and theater activities. Identifiable literature data, especially the already-excavated material “Bul Eola Bom Balam“(Blowing in the springtime”) should be made available to academia.
