최승자 시의 전복성 연구

국문 초록

본고는 1980년대 발표한 최승자의 텍스트 속 서문을 통해 창작의 원천과 시의 전복성에 대해서 살폈다. 그녀가 활발히 활동했던 1980년대는 광주항쟁 등 정치적 폭압이 극에 달했던 시기였고 아버지로 상징되는 권력의 폭력성과 공포로부터 여성문학은 급격한 변화를 일으켰다. 최승자의 시 역시 페미니스트적 인식의 차원에서 주로 연구되어 졌으며, 부정성, 자기파괴성, 죽음충동, 사랑의 실패와 고통이 창조적이고 생산적인 의미로 해석되었다. 따라서 본고에서는 이러한 특성이 발아하는 원천을 그의 서문을 통해서 발견하고 시와 함께 살피고자 한다. 이 작업은 시인의 시 정신을 이해하는 원천이 되며, 시론을 정립하는 기초가 된다. 또한 시 속에서 시인의 시 정신이 어떻게 투영되어 형상화 되고 있는지를 뒷받침하는 계기로 의의를 지닌다. 최승자는 서문에서 시를 왜 쓰는지 분명히 밝히고 있다. 그는 타자의 고통스런 삶을 응시하고 꿈꾸는 삶이 시 쓰기라고 말한다. 시인으로서 존재해야 할 이유인 타자의 삶에 대한 응시는 텍스트 속에서 참을 수 없는 고통과 좌절로 형상화 된다. 이러한 고통과 좌절은 세계 속에 단일한 정체성을 형성하지 못하고 경계에선 주체를 만들어 낸다. 최승자의 시 속에 나타나는 타자나 화자는 결코 폭력적인 행동으로 억압된 세계, 부정한 세계를 파괴하고자 하지 않는다. 그것은 아주 조용한 움직임 가운 데서 미세한 ‘틈’을 발생시키고 있다. 그 미세한 틈은 곧 파괴된 집의 이미지로 형상화 된다. 최승자에게 시를 쓰는 행위는 그리움이고 삶이며, 구원이다. 그녀가 시 쓰기에서 비관론자적으로 되는 것은 현실적인 입장에서 시 쓰기가 타자에게 직접적인 도움을 줄 수 없다는데 있다. 그러나 그녀가 시 쓰기에서 구원의 희망을 얻는 것은 다른 사람들의 상처를 안을 수 있다는 것 과 다른 사람들이 울지 않을 때 시를 통해 울 수 있다는 것이다. 이는 시속에서 죽음 충동으로 표출된다. 이 슬픔의 표상인 죽음충동은 나르시시즘과 연결될 수 있다. 슬픔은 대상에 대한 나약함만을 지니는 것이 아니라 부조리한 세계에 대항하는 힘을 지니며, 시 창작의 원천이 된다. 따라서 죽음충동은 창조적, 생산적 의미를 지닌다. 죽음 이미지들은 이질적 결합, 그로테스크한 분위기를 통한 기호계적 충동과 의미생성을 통해 오이디푸스 전 단계로 돌아가고자 하는 욕망을 보인다. 이는 파괴와 재생의 혼돈 속을 오가며, 예술창작의 원천이 된다.

영문 초록

This paper paid attention to the creative source of poems by Choi Seung-Ja through the preface of her texts published in the 1980s. In the 1980s when she actively performed, the political oppression like the Gwangju Democratic Uprising went to extreme, and the woman literature caused the rapid change from the violence of power symbolized as father. Choi Seung-Ja s poems were also mainly researched in the aspect of feministic perception while the negativity, self-destruction, death drive, and failure and pain of love were interpreted as creative and productive meanings. Thus, this paper aims to discover the source of such characteristics through her preface. This work becomes not only the source to understand the poetic spirit of a poet, but also the basics to establish the poetics. Also, it is significant as an opportunity to support how the poetic spirit of a poet has been reflected/expressed in poems. In her preface, Choi Seung-Ja clearly reveals the reason why she writes poems. She says that writing poems is the life of gazing at/dreaming others painful life. The gaze at others life, which is the reason for existing as a poet is expressed as unbearable pain and frustration in texts. Such pain and frustration create an entity on the boundary without forming a single identity in the world. The others or narrators shown in her poems never aim to destroy the suppressed/corrupted world with violent behaviors. It generates a fine ‘crack’ in the middle of very quiet movements, and the fine crack is expressed as an image of destroyed house. To Choi Seung-Ja, the act of writing poems is the longing, life, and salvation. In her poems, she is pessimistic because her poems cannot be directly helpful to others in reality. However, she obtains a hope for salvation by writing poems because she can embrace others wounds and she can cry through poems when others do not cry. This is expressed as death drive in poems. The death drive which is the symbol of sorrow could be connected to narcissism. Sorrow has not only the weakness of objects, but also a power to fight against the irrational world, which becomes the source of creating poems. Therefore, death drive has the creative and productive meanings. The images of death show a desire for going back to the pre-stage of Oedipus through the formation of semiotic drive and meaning through the different combination and grotesque atmosphere, which becomes the source of artistic creation in the chaos of destruction and regeneration.
