국문 초록

최근 몇 년 사이 제주도에 예술인이 급격히 증가하면서 제주예술계는 큰 변화가 일어나고 있다. 특히 2011년을 기점으로 지난 6년 동안 이주 예술가들가 조성한 예술공간이 급격하게 늘어났 다. 자생적으로 조성된 공간과 함께 최근에 정부의 지원사업이 더해지면서 지난 6년간 50여 개가 넘는 예술공간이 새롭게 신설되었다. 제주도의 ‘문화예술의 섬 조성’ 정책은 제주의 창작 및 예술 공간이 늘어나는데, 중요한 역할을 했다. 본 연구는 2013년부터 제주문화예술재단과 제주시에서 지원받은 창작공간을 중심으로 조사해왔다. 연구방법은 직접방문 인터뷰를 기본으로 했고, 문헌이나 기사 등 자료를 수집하여 분석했다. 본연구자는 이 연구를 통해서 제주 창작공간 가운데 ‘장소 특정적 미술’에서 지역의 정체성과 지역민들의 참여를 이끌어내는 공동체적 특성을 갖고 있는 사례를 찾아보고, 이를 통해서 제주라는 지역의 정체성을 고려한 창작공간의 방향성을 찾고자 한다.

영문 초록

With the rapidly growing numbers of immigrators, Jeju island is undergoing the dramatic changes on its art ecology. Art community of Jeju island is also anticipating the further transformation of the island’s art society as the growing numbers of the artists moving in. Especially, the continuous growth of newly formed (government subsidized or privately funded) art spaces built by those moved- in-artists since 2011 backs up the anticipation. For the past 6years, more than 50 art spaces have been newly built and there is high possibility of the further growth in those number. Also, Jeju island’s provincial government is taking the positive attitude toward those artistic immigrators’ with the ambitious vision of fostering the island as the ‘Island of art and culture’. And art spaces are expected to play the important role on satisfying the government’s ambition. The study has been investigating the Jeju Culture and Arts Foundation and the creative spaces supported by the city since 2013. Research methods were based on face-to-face interview, and data such as literature and articles were collected and analyzed. This study is to find examples of communal characteristics in the site-specific art in the Jeju s creative spaces. Through this study, we will find the direction of creative spaces considering the identity of Cheju Island.
