This study examines simultaneous interpreted renderings of expert and novice groups of interpreters interpreting a speech delivered at an international conference. The aim of the study is to see whether the failure sequence described in Gile s Effort Model do occur while interpreters work near their processing limits under time constraints. The renderings of the two groups of interpreters are analyzed in three aspects. First, do interpreters with longer experience deliver higher amount of information? Second, what are the differences in processing of meaning units from SL to TL between the two groups? Third, do interpreters with longer working experiences more efficient in coping with processing constraints and avoid failure sequence? The result of the analysis showed that interpreters with longer experiences are more efficient and accurate in delivery of information from SL to TL. While this group of interpreters also feel the pressure working under constraints, they have learned tactics to avoid failures in communications which distinguish the expert group from the novice.
