영문 초록

The purpose of this study were to investigate the possession rate and the degree of necessity of teaching aids essential for hands-on practice in elementary practical arts education, to examine teachers perception of their own preparedness for in-class practice, and to analyze their present situation for guiding the in-class practice. The results of this research were as follows; First, more than 70% of elementary schools had no teaching aids or equipment prepared for hands-on practice which means that most elementary schools are failing to effectively support hands-on practice for practical arts education. Second, the teachers preparedness for in-class practice had a significant influence on students performance. Teachers with longer educational experience were more aware of the importance of preparation for hands-on activities. Third, it was revealed that two factors were inhibiting teachers preparedness for practice: the shortage of facilities, workrooms, equipment and materials for efficient practice, and the difficulty of arranging practice materials for students.
