星湖全集 속 ‘ 實 ’ 을 바라보는 두 가지 視線 － ‘事實’과 ‘眞實’의 엇갈림과 어울림 －

국문 초록

성호는 시가 世敎를 위한 것이어야 한다는 생각을 가지고 있었다. 시는 인간을 인간답게 만드는 도구가 되어야 한다고 생각했던 성호는 시에서 가장 중요한 것이 眞實이라고 생각했다. 성호의 시를 보면 성호가 事實과 眞 實의 두 범주에서 事實보다 眞實에 더 주목했다는 것을 알 수 있다. 그런데 성호는 眞實이 객관적이지도 보편적이지도 절대적이지도 않다는 문제점에 주목했다. 따라서 그는 事實 그 자체를 있는 그대로 옮겨 이 事實을 통해 각자 스스로 眞實을 판단할 수 있도록 하는 것이 옳다고 여겼다. 그래서 事實 그 자체만을 眞으로 간주한 것이다. 그렇지만 眞實이 지니는 가치가 事實보다 크다고 생각했기에 眞實을 무시할 수 없었다. 그래서 眞實을 逼眞, 眞과 함께 할 수 있는 假로 규정한 것이다. 또 虛僞를 眞實로 위장할 수 있다는 걱정에 따라 眞實의 다양한 전제 조건을 만들어 眞實이란 결코 쉬운 것이 아니라는 것을 강조했다. 이와 함께 眞實의 眞實性에 대한 판단이 함부로 이루어질 수 없다는 것을 밝히기 위해 다른 어떤 것 보다 眞實을 접하는 사람의 수준과 능력이 우선되어야 한다고 언급했다. 성호의 시에 보이는 寫實的 표현은 성호가 추구했던 眞實을 구현하기 위한 수단이었다. 그의 시에서 확인할 수 있는 寫實的 표현은 우선적으로 事 實을 있는 그대로 재현한다는 의미라고 할 수 있지만, 그 이면에는 寫實은 事實보다 眞實의 구현이어야 한다는 확고한 신념이 자리 잡고 있었다. 그의 시에서 寫實的 표현의 寫實性이 보이지 않는다는 생각이 드는 시도 있지 만, 그 시의 이면에는 강한 眞實性이 내재되어 있다. 성호 시의 寫實性은 事實보다는 眞實을 위한 것이었다.

영문 초록

It seems that Seongho had the thought poems should be meant for edification. Seongho who thought poems should be the tools to make people more humane, thought truth was the most important thing in poems. We can tell that Seongho took more notice on truth than fact by looking at his poems. However it seems that Seongho paid attention on the problem truth is not objective, universial, nor absolute. Thus it looks like he transcribed the fact itself and regarded it right to judge the truth oneself. This is why he considered only the fact itself as real. However, because Seongho thought the value of truth bigger than the value of fact it is thought that he could not neglect the truth. So he regulated truth as closest to the truth, the untruth that could go with the real. Moreover, because of the concern that people could disguise false into truth it seems that he made diverse preconditions to emphasize that truth is not easy. It also seems that to disclose that the judgment about the veracity of truth could not be carelessly made by anyone, he mentioned that the capability and the standard of the people who encounter the truth should be overrode. The realistic expression techniques that are seen in Seongho’s poems were the methods to materialize the truth he chased. The realistic expression techniques that could be confirmed in his poems could be seems as the meaning of reenacting the fact itself, but on it’s hidden side, a firm belief that objective description should be the realization of truth than fact. There are some poems that do make people think the realism of realistic expression techniques can not bee seen, but fierce veracity is inherent on the hidden side. The realism of Seongho’s poems is not about fact, but is about truth.
